I can't take a screenshot because it also loses focus, so I hope this makes
sense.

The Office 2007 apps have had their sensible menus replaced with a button in
the top left of the window.
The problem occurs when hovering over one option (say Send) so that it's
sub-menu opens, then moving the cursor over to another menu option (say Print).
 The menu closes.  This doesn't happen under Windows.

Tested Excel and Word.  Can't really test the other apps as they have their own
problems preventing them from starting.

Nothing new is printed in the console when this happens, but log attached.

Went back to Wine 1.1.11 to check for a recent regression but problem occurs
there too.  Same in latest git.

It is not a problem in Codeweavers 9 though, guess they have a hack in place?

Still an issue in wine-1.3.14 and wine is kicking ass just shame that word 2007
is not really usable as of right now

Solution: When you hover on one option with a sub-menu, you have to go to
another option without a sub-menu (such as Open). You will then have a list of
recent files. You can now go to an option with a sub-menu.

thats a workaround and definitely not a solution since you still cant browse
around the menu using the mouse freely, as soon as yo go off that option with
the submenu. the whole menu vanishes again

Bug still present in 1.3.24.

Disabling "Allow the window manager to control the windows" options you can
move cursors over sub-menu, but if you choice options with no sub-menu (as
open) menu closes again. This breaks fonts selection menu too.

Still present in 1.5.9.  Also, some of the menu items which have submenus (Save
as, Print) are also supposed to be menu entries that you can click, which
should make them perform the action with the default options, instead of having
to select an entry in the submenu.  Using Wine, if you click these menu entries
nothing happens apart from the menu closing.

(let me know if I should file this as a separate issue, but it seems closely
related...)

Still present in 1.7.32

However I caught it actually working one time (last week so I guess that would
have been 1.7.31 or 32).
Was about to show few friends an example of the kind of problems you will run
into when you run programs through Wine, "Look you hover here, then open this
menu and it vanish.. Hey! Someone fixed it!".
I could not reproduce it after several tries, however next time I came back to
the computer it was back...

Perhaps it is given, but I noticed that using the keyboard arrow-keys to
navigate the menu does not trigger the bug, only mouse movement.

Interesting.
I just noticed that (for me!) when running a virtual desktop, this is not a
problem.
Could this be related to the window manager?
I'm on Kwin.

Good spotting - yes, this bug does not occur when Wine is set to emulate a
virtual desktop.
But I doubt that the problem is with the window managers (I use Openbox) rather
than Wine...

What's interesting is that you can actually have another submenu open without
reopening the whole menu. If you hover on Save As, then immediately move to
Print, the menu vanishes. But if you hover on Save As, then go back to an item
without a submenu, like Save, then move to and hover at Print, then Print
successfully opens its submenu. This works with all items without submenu as
intermediate points and those with submenus as target points.

Still present in wine-2.0-235-g2dd0fb8.

I noticed that it doesn't reproduce in a virtual desktop (started via e.g.
`wine explorer /desktop=w,1280x1024 WINWORD.EXE`), but still reproduces when
Word is run normally.

No change in Wine 8.12.

Interestingly Marco prints the following when it happens:

Also affects Excel Viewer 2007. You need an Excel file open to activate the
menus.
