Summary: Project Eden - Crashes GUI and have to restart computer Product: Wine Version: 1.1.33 Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: major Priority: P3 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: ssjgoku75x@aol.com
I tried playing Project Eden twice. The first time there seemed to be no sound so I figured if I were to quit and restart the game it would fix it. The second time, however, nothing came on the screen and it looked as if nothing was wrong. I could move my mouse cursor but could not click or move anything. I even tried ALT+F4 and that didn't work, I used my keyboard shortcut for Terminal (Windows Logo Key) and that didn't come up so I had to hard boot my laptop.
I'm afraid to even try the game again haha.
Keep up the good work guys!
P.S. Inform me if any information is needed. :)

What happens if you run in a virtual desktop? Attach the terminal output as a file.

--- Comment #2 from ssjgoku75x@aol.com 2009-12-05 17:34:45 --- I can't get into the Wine configuration because Wine is not in the "Applications" Menu. Could you tell me how to get that back into that menu (On an irrelevant note)
I'll go to the main Wine folder and try this.
Sorry about putting as "Major" btw :)

--- Comment #3 from Jeff Zaroyko jeffz@jeffz.name 2009-12-05 17:37:02 --- type `winecfg` at the terminal. Then you'll need to start your application by changing to it's directory at the terminal and running it with `wine foo.exe`. If you need help with that visit the forum http://forum.winehq.org or the irc channel.
ps. You've just changed it back to major, please don't do that.

Oh alright. I guess you learn something new everyday :)
You could start by disabling virtual desktop and testing again something like this, which will abort after 60 seconds and capture the console output to log.txt, so you can attach it as a file here. Ofcourse, you'll need to modify the path and executable name. Also post which video card and drivers you have.
cd ~/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/ProjectEden wine eden.exe 2> log.txt & sleep 60;wineserver -k

--- Comment #11 from ssjgoku75x@aol.com 2009-12-06 00:33:10 --- Good news! I did, in fact, have a GUI glitch again but luckily this little trick worked! I'll be remembering this from now on! I attached the log.txt
Btw, what does "Fixme" mean? Is that Wine's clever little way of an "Error"?

No, it means something isn't yet fully fixed/implemented. It's a clever way of saying, 'be sure to fix me in the future, but hopefully this works well enough for most programs.'

--- Comment #16 from ssjgoku75x@aol.com 2009-12-07 19:35:05 --- I have already done this. It's "The log file" attachment. That indicates the things that have happened once I started the program.

Information:

64MB Nvidia GeForceFX 5600 (0x0312)
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI Mobile Intel速 GM45 Express Chipset GEM 20090712 2009Q2 RC3 x86/MMX/SSE2 OpenGL version string: 2.1 Mesa 7.6
Are both these cards in the same machine? From the output of glxinfo on your email, it suggests that you are using the Intel card and not the Nvidia.
If you have the nvidia card in the same machine, could you configure your system to use it instead of the intel?
