Bug #: 29308 Summary: Word 2010 complains about Normal.dotm on start with builtin msxml6 Product: Wine Version: 1.3.9 Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: NEW Severity: minor Priority: P2 Component: msxml3 AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: dimesio@earthlink.net Depends on: 25494 Classification: Unclassified
Opening per http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=25494#c16. I'm setting the Wine version to 1.3.9 and component to msxml3 based on that bug.
On starting, Word 2010 throws up a couple of error messages complaining about Normal.dotm; the app does run if you just click through them. Native msxml6 gets rid of the error messages.

Bug 29308 depends on bug 25494, which changed state.
Bug 25494 Summary: Office Pro 2010 Trial: Word, Excel, and Powerpoint cannot open or save OOXML (docx, xlsx, pptx) files http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=25494

--- Comment #1 from Nikolay Sivov bunglehead@gmail.com 2011-12-10 16:55:50 CST --- Created attachment 37912 --> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=37912 patch
This fixes Normal.dotm corruption for me. Please test it to save some documents to see if it breaks anything (not really expected but still).

--- Comment #2 from Rosanne DiMesio dimesio@earthlink.net 2011-12-10 19:07:16 CST --- The patch gets rid of the error message about Normal.dotm for me, and doesn't seem to break anything.
However, when testing I found that Word is unable to open some of the sample templates installed with it (with or without the patch). The error message is similar to the one about Normal.dotm, saying the template may be corrupt; native msxml6 fixes it. Should I file a separate bug for that?

Good.

What are these? Please list these problematic files and I'll take a look.
They are dotx files, used to create new files when accessed via File=>New=>Sample Templates. Only a few work. All of the origin*, urban*, and median* templates throw up the error message, whether using them to create a new file or trying to open them directly.

I can see this, and it looks like another bug, not so obvious yet. Please open another report for it.
