"Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laude" crashes at startup in both the 1.0 and GOG version.
OS: Linux Mint 18.3 KDE x64 / Wine 3.10 (Using recommended graphics drivers)

I found a distributed "backup" of the GOG release and can't reproduce this. The game works fine here. Started new name and moved Larry around in the house.
(Graphics: Mesa 18.x/Intel HD4600 gpu and NVIDIA proprietary drivers using Bumblebee/optirun).

If you have a gamepad/joystick attached try to start the game with the controller unplugged. Does the game start normally that way?
I could reproduce the problem with the GOG.com version when my cheap Trust GXT530 gamepad is attached. If I launch 'wine control joy.cpl' the controller appears as: MY-POWER CO.,LTD. USB joystick (js) MY-POWER CO.,LTD. USB joystick (event)
In order to start the game with the controller attached I had to disable one of the input methods. In other words, the game crashes on start when both input methods are enabled.
