Summary: Perfect World International - Diagonal Lines on Tiger Barbarians Product: Wine Version: 1.1.31 Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: minor Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: k8bebop@gmail.com
When viewing Tiger-Headed Barbarians anywhere in the game, there is a brown or black line that leads away from the head to the leftmost border and from the head, diagonally upwards. On the face of the Tiger Barb, there are also some brown lines.
It only occurs on a Tiger barb, and only when he's in untamed mode. If he is in tiger mode (like an actual tiger), there are no lines. It does not happen to Venomancers, Elves, Archers, anyone. Even if they have brown hair.
The lines look approximately 1x1 pixel wide.
The game is not really effected, the game still runs. It just weird.
I had installed v1.1.29 when I first installed this game, and the lines have persisted up to v1.1.31

--- Comment #3 from bobbug@gmx.at 2009-12-17 11:42:33 --- Seems to be "fixed" (at least in PWI), but unfortunately I think the reason wasn't a fix of wine but a change in Perfect world - so I think this bug can't be reproduced any longer

--- Comment #4 from Ken k8bebop@gmail.com 2009-12-17 23:37:16 --- It still occurs. And there is a new problem. Its not just the Tiger-Barbs, it also happens in the new expansion, Rising Tide. It happens on all the new tideborn characters in the game. I thought maybe it had to do with the resolution I had set up, so I have reduced the resolution, and it still happens.
It may have to do entirely from my video card, which is a NVidia GT 7300. I have the newest card drivers, so it will always happen with me.
I've gotten a new monitor but still using the same video card, and I probably will not get a new one just for this problem. Since I have looked on the PWI forums, no one is experiencing this goofy bug, which makes me think its only wines directx implementation or its use of DirectX9. Maybe it will go away when directx10 is implemented.
It may also have to do with the fact that I use Wine on a x86_64 system, with the x86_64 version of Wine.

There is no such a thing yet as a "x86_64 version of Wine". You need to use 32-bit Wine if you expect anything to work.

--- Comment #6 from Joni L-H jonilh@gmail.com 2009-12-20 10:00:58 --- There is x86_64 packages of Wine for example to Ubuntu. This is just to satisfy how the deb package managment works I think. Where thay have specificly 32bit librarys as dependencys.
PWI I play in CrossOver Games 8.1.3 and the problem is the same there. And its not only Male untamed and all Tideborn. But also some monsters in the world has this line goin out. It looks to me like a polygon on crack.

--- Comment #9 from Ken k8bebop@gmail.com 2010-01-04 08:57:55 --- This is with v1.1.35 of Wine. I haven't tried backporting to see if it goes away. Maybe I will try that, and convey my investigations.

--- Comment #10 from Joni L-H jonilh@gmail.com 2010-01-04 09:10:13 --- The fix in CrossOver Games for this is a registry hack: In: HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Wine/AppDefaults/elementclient.exe/Direct3D create a string: SafeVsConsts and set it to: enable

I cannot use this registry hack, because I do not use elementclient.exe to launch the program, I use Launcher.exe from the launch directory. If I try to use the hack, and try running the program using the elementclient.exe, then I get this error.
I'm still a noob to Wine, but not to Windows. I know how to use the registry editor, and have even tried putting the hack under the Launcher.exe's registry entry. If I run with Launcher, there is no effect on the problem.

I also use Launcher.exe but that in turn will run elementclient.exe so just try the hack and then run launcher.exe as normal. Works for me. But then I run it in CrossOver Games but should work the same way.

--- Comment #13 from Ken k8bebop@gmail.com 2010-01-05 13:44:38 --- I've tried the hack that Joni reported worked with CrossOver. It does not work with regular Wine (v1.1.35). There must be other tweaks in their representation of DirectX.

i had this problem using nvidia and it seems to be fixed with this registry addition HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine\Direct3D make string and add UseGLSL and value data set to disabled
only things i have in the Direct3D key are:
DirectDrawRenderer opengl VideoMemorySize 256 UseGLSL disabled
in winecfg make sure vertex shading has hardware selected and you should get all the water reflections etc
bug with patcher window icons are being worked on atm here: http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=20598
