Bug #: 29221 Summary: Taskmgr.exe, mmc.exe, cmd.exe, msconfig.exe Product: Wine Version: 1.2.3 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: hdk01986@yahoo.com Classification: Unclassified
I wanted to open taskmgr.exe, mmc.exe, cmd.exe, or msconfig.exe but was unable to use those, I was able to open the registry editor used for windows within wine. These are the deeper sort of applications I would like to see compatible, I have wise registry and disk cleaners and optimizers, which I am not sure is relevant to a wine install on linux, apparently no fragmentation in linux as the spacing on the disk is spread differently. I saw bug 17428 which is Taskmgr: blank process in process list, I do not even get a taskmanager to open. I may upgrade my wine install, I thought I had already...

--- Comment #1 from oneti meuse hdk01986@yahoo.com 2011-12-01 19:38:29 CST --- regedit.exe, explorer.exe () did not work, but I was able to use reg.exe and/or regedt32.exe as a registry editor. I also updated to wine 1.3.33.

--- Comment #2 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2011-12-01 21:33:21 CST --- Wine doesn't provide mmc/msconfig, and likely won't (unless a real world application needs them).
I don't see the actual problem here, what application do you have that works on windows but not on wine?
Likely INVALID..

--- Comment #3 from Vitaliy Margolen vitaliy-bugzilla@kievinfo.com 2011-12-01 21:37:56 CST --- Wine has it's own task manager, cmd, regedit, and configurator (winecfg). Everything else is not needed.
Wine does not re-implement Windows in it's entirety. Only parts required for Windows programs to function.

--- Comment #5 from oneti meuse hdk01986@yahoo.com 2011-12-03 17:04:23 CST --- Oh I get it now. I don't have any programs that work on windows but not on wine. I didn't realize there were wine tools/commands, I was looking for tools. I guess there was one program, it was "xboot" multi iso dvd creator. I wanted to use the lightweight qemu with it and it didn't work in wine, Thanks though.
