I have heard that Rosetta Stone uses flash, it might be worth installing it in Wine and retesting. Installing it outside of Wine with apt is pointless.

Agreed, and excellent recommendation. I will try this and report the results.

First tried installing Adobe Flash Player 10 10.0.45.2 for Mozilla in wine, but same outcome, screen hangs then goes and remains gray. Removed this, then installed Adobe Flash Player 10 ActiveX 10.0.45.2 in wine but same outcome, screen hangs then goes and remains gray.

--- Comment #9 from rusivi1@gmail.com 2010-02-28 03:19:46 --- Downloaded Adobe Flash Player 10.1 via:
http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer10.html
Burned cd as .iso via:
dd if=/dev/cdrom of=rosetta.iso
mounted iso via gmount-iso, opened folder containing aha_holder.swf, drag and dropped it into Mozilla Firefox and the lesson worked.
As well, the .flv movie files worked doing above procedure.
RosettaStone.exe still freezes like before.

--- Comment #11 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2011-11-16 15:33:16 CST --- This is your friendly reminder that there has been no bug activity for 1.5 years. Is this still an issue in current (1.3.32 or newer) wine?
