Summary: Some objects in Source games are black Product: Wine Version: 1.3.2 Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: michael.monreal+wine@gmail.com
Some objects in games based on Valve's Source engine are displayed all black:
- Half-Life 2: the airboat, the (drivable) car - Left 4 Dead: weapons, pickup items and player models
Running on a GeForce 7950. I tried various graphics settings but they all lead to the same black textures in both games.

I just realized that the models are not simply black, they are "only" not lit correctly. That is, they show up as if everything around them is dark. They react to the flashlight however, as can be seen on the screenshot.

--- Comment #2 from Michael Monreal michael.monreal+wine@gmail.com 2010-09-07 11:42:27 CDT --- Alright, I just found out that upping "Shader Detail" to "High" or "Very High" improves the situation a bit (visually... it is too slow to play with those settings): weapons in first person view show up correctly and player models also look fine (some weirdness with the heads but mostly ok)
However this does still not fix some of the objects... ammo for example is still shown black until manually lit by flashlight and weapons of the other characters as well as their backpacks show up all black as well.

Though that bug is ill-defined, both these bugs are about various unwanted blackness issues. In TF2, at least, it seems like its offscreen (?) effects that are boned - switching OffscreenRenderingMode to backbuffer fixes it (but murders performance)

Is this still an issue in wine version 1.6-rc4 or higher or is this to be closed as abandoned ?

I have not seen this personally for a while. TF2, L4D2, Portal 2 all run fine with default configuration. Unless someone can still repro, I'd say this was fixed.
