Summary: First Wine instance always hangs, the second one works Product: Wine Version: 0.9.57. Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: wineserver AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: julius@zgod.cjb.net
Created an attachment (id=11436) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=11436) Output of strace -p <wineserver pid>
When I run Wine for the first time on this computer (by running winefile f.e.), it always hangs the first time and I can't kill this process.
The second time I run it then however, it works without any problems. I have this even after starting over with a fresh .wine and on both Ubuntu Dapper & Hardy with all recent Wine versions as far as I can remember.
I suspect it is related to my hardware in some way. I've attached the output of strace -p on the wineserver pid. strace -p on the first wine-pthread pid doesn't give anything.

--- Comment #1 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2008-10-17 15:23:37 --- Is this still a problem in current (1.1.6 or newer) wine?

--- Comment #2 from Julius Schwartzenberg julius@zgod.cjb.net 2008-10-31 18:25:42 --- Yes. I just verified it with version 1.1.7. The problem still occurs. It only occurs with Ubuntu Dapper. With Ubuntu Hardy on the same system, everything works well.
The Dapper installation works fine for everything else though, so I do think this is something weird in Wine.
The only reason I still have this Dapper installation is to verify this bug. So it's not really important for me personally anymor. If anyone thinks it could be useful to debug this further anyhow, I'll just keep to Dapper install so it can still be reproduced. (A reinstall of Dapper would also work though, I did several reinstalls and they all had this problem.)

--- Comment #4 from Julius Schwartzenberg julius@zgod.cjb.net 2009-05-31 17:48:15 --- Yes, I just checked it with Wine version 1.1.22. The problem is still there.

--- Comment #7 from Julius Schwartzenberg julius@zgod.cjb.net 2010-08-08 15:03:27 --- I'm on Karmic right now. I do not have a Dapper installation anymore. Is it still interesting to look into solving this issue? I can install and test with Dapper again if so when I have time again (after August).

Dapper being long-since unsupported, no, especially if it's an ubuntu bug. If it doesn't still happen in Karmic, you should close the bug as invalid.
