Bug #: 31264 Summary: iTunes will not connect to the iTunes music store Product: Wine Version: 1.5.9 Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: medasaro@comcast.net Classification: Unclassified
Install iTunes 10.6.1 or 10.6.3. The UI is corrupted, but click on the 'iTunes Store' link in the left-hand pane anyway. iTunes will hang there forever and never connect to the store. Running network diagnostics results in a message that says 'Secure Link to iTunes Store failed.' No particularly useful hints show up on the console and overriding secure32 and/or wininet makes no difference.

--- Comment #7 from Matthew D'Asaro medasaro@comcast.net --- OK. There has been progress since the last time I tested this. Rather then hanging forever iTunes now fails with error 0x80090318. According to Apple (see link below) this error is due to 3rd party Winsock providers, so I suspect that this means the reason it won't work on wine is due to wine's implementation of winsock. I uploaded a newer console log, but it doesn't seem to provide many hints.

--- Comment #10 from Matthew D'Asaro medasaro@comcast.net --- Thanks so much! I just retested with wine 1.7.40 and the problem is gone! I can successfully browse the iTunes store in iTunes 10, 11, and 12. I tested buying a song in iTunes 10 and it works (I assume it will work in 11 and 12 but I didn't test it). I also reran the network connectivity tests in iTunes 10 and that works as well - the only test that fails is connecting to the 'iPhone Activation Server' which is a useless feature in Wine anyway given that there is no USB support.
I am very happy to report this one resolved!
