Summary: Civilization 4 is not properly displayed Product: Wine Version: 1.2-rc6 Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: directx-d3d AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: luis.busquets@ilidium.com
Created an attachment (id=29335) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=29335) wine log with fixmes
Terrain is not properly displayed. It is all black and the leaders are neither withour even the background. My VGA card is a ATI Technologies Inc RV370 [Sapphire X550 Silent] and the game certainly does work with the other PCs that I hav3e with NVIDIA cards. I thus think that is something to do with the wined3d port to the ATI card.

--- Comment #2 from Matteo Bruni matteo.mystral@gmail.com 2010-08-22 18:16:47 --- It works very well for me on an ATI HD5650, Catalyst 10.7. Your card is not supported by recent ATI binary drivers, you may have better luck with the free radeon drivers (but don't hold your breath...)

Terrain is not properly displayed.
Is my observation for a game situation in Wine 1.3.38_1.4rc2 on my openSUSE 12.1 system similar to your error description?

How do you think about the error description "minimap and Leaderheads not showing up in Civilization IV"? http://forum.winehq.org/viewtopic.php?p=47056&sid=22578440841b3b51c697a1...

--- Comment #6 from genstorm andreas.sturmlechner@gmail.com 2012-02-11 11:09:42 CST --- I have a slightly different problem where everything is displayed not black but way too dark (wine-1.3.37).
@ wine-1.2 all is fine (except pink horse resource :D)
Currently, I am trying to find a 1.3 series release where civ4 is fine:
@ wine-1.2.3 completely missing menus @ wine-1.3.0 civ4 won't start @ wine-1.3.15 same issue as in 1.3.37, so I suspect it's all over 1.3
next try: probably 1.2.2 or 1.3.10, holy compile times :)
My system: Gentoo amd64, Intel GMA4500 with both latest kernel DRM (3.2.5/3.3_rc3) and userspace driver.

--- Comment #9 from genstorm andreas.sturmlechner@gmail.com 2012-02-11 11:48:23 CST --- I just finished building wine-1.2.2 and there Civ4 looks just as good as 1.2. I can also add such an 'OK'-screenshot just for reference but don't want to spam the attachment list, I think you get the idea.
Hopefully this isn't regarded as bug derailment but I thought it would be fine under this very general bug summary.

--- Comment #10 from genstorm andreas.sturmlechner@gmail.com 2012-02-11 18:30:12 CST --- I have identified the problem now as a regression from 1.3.14 to 1.3.15.
Taking a look at http://www.winehq.org/announce/1.3.15 there's... Reflection support in shader compiler ...introduced in that version. Could that be the cause?

Does using softpipe (not swrast) make it any better? Regardless, that commit is newer than this bug report, so it's a different issue.

--- Comment #14 from genstorm andreas.sturmlechner@gmail.com 2012-02-16 04:21:09 CST --- I just rebuilt mesa to get the gallium softpipe:
glxinfo | grep renderer OpenGL renderer string: Gallium 0.4 on softpipe
A test-run with current wine.git master shows the same too dark graphics as seen before.
Should I open another bug report?

I just rebuilt mesa to get the gallium softpipe:
glxinfo | grep renderer OpenGL renderer string: Gallium 0.4 on softpipe
Is that 32-bit Mesa or 64-bit though? Wine needs 32-bit, glxinfo typically uses 64-bit. The first couple of lines of WINEDEBUG=+wgl should tell you what Wine is actually using. I'm asking mostly because what you're reporting sounds suspiciously like https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=35373, which also explicitly mentions Civ 4.
A test-run with current wine.git master shows the same too dark graphics as seen before.
Should I open another bug report?
Yeah, that's probably better, provided the 32-bit stuff mentioned above is all correct.

--- Comment #16 from genstorm andreas.sturmlechner@gmail.com 2012-02-16 08:33:19 CST --- I guess those are the lines you were asking for:
trace:wgl:X11DRV_WineGL_InitOpenglInfo GL version : 2.1 Mesa 7.11.2. trace:wgl:X11DRV_WineGL_InitOpenglInfo GL renderer : Mesa DRI Mobile Intel® GM45 Express Chipset . trace:wgl:X11DRV_WineGL_InitOpenglInfo GLX version : 1.4.
Looking at the output I realized my fault - by rebuilding the mesa package I only touched the (8.0) 64 bit files. The Gentoo 32bit emul package right now does not provide gallium softpipe it seems...

--- Comment #17 from genstorm andreas.sturmlechner@gmail.com 2012-02-16 08:38:15 CST --- Using MESA_EXTENSION_OVERRIDE="-GL_EXT_texture_sRGB_decode" as seen in your linked report fixes the problem.
