Summary: The Sims 3 Textures go Black and sometimes Abnormal patterns. Product: Wine Version: unspecified Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P3 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: markh789@gmail.com
When playing The Sims 3, your figures, objects walls, floors, cars, grass and plants go either Black or have abnormal textures.
I have no idea what to post in the attachment, if you could please direct me to what I have to then I will do so.
The only way to fix this is to set your texture details to the lowest possible, though my Graphics card (GeForce 8500 GT) should be able to support highest possible details, as it did on Windows.
Here is an example of what someone posted: http://i43.tinypic.com/2mpwiuh.png
The couch appears to have some kind of outfit design on it.
Also, Shaders 2.0 don't work (in-game known as advanced rendering).
Apparently this is due to memory leaks, though when I applied memory leak patches I still got the same results. (Which is bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=20484 and bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=20483 - applied in that order).

--- Comment #3 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2010-06-04 15:43:54 --- This is your friendly reminder that there has been no bug activity for 11 months. Is this still an issue in current (1.2-rc2 or newer) wine?

What operating system, card, and drivers?
If it's ubuntu and nvidia, do the latest drivers in https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/x-updates help?
Unfortunately, it's still there. I did add the repository and do a huge update (nVidia drivers included) but it didn't help. I also tried virtually every direct3d wine setting I could find.
However, there is an interesting pattern I noticed. Even after starting a new game, loading up the CAS and making all tons of characters, never was anything rendered wrong. I could even choose an (existing) household to play and load it up find, all toons rendered properly. However, the first time I try to change anyone's clothes, you get a noticeable pause (I assume it's off-screen rendering the new look) and then pop, the new outfit with a now totally black toon skin.
Ubuntu 10.10, amd64, nVidia Gefore Go 7600 (512MB dedicated)

(Geforce Go 7600, eh? I wonder if it's running out of some resource that is short on that old card. Do you have a newer system you can test on?)

--- Comment #9 from pablinn_d@hotmail.com 2011-08-10 05:19:25 CDT --- I have the same problem but it's slightly worse in my case:
http://i55.tinypic.com/35iyqnc.png http://i52.tinypic.com/eqa33s.jpg
But it I go to town view, it gets better: http://i55.tinypic.com/w8kpox.png
This is the best result I got, setting OffscreenRenderingMode to fbo, and setting every graphic detail to low.
It's weird, since Create a Sim works fine, just the Sim shows a bit "transparent" and overexposed.
Any news on this case?
PS: I'm running Ubuntu Natty x64 with wine 1.3.26, and Intel Core i3 Integrated Graphics.

--- Comment #10 from Robert Wm Ruedisueli ruediix@gmail.com 2013-09-01 22:23:56 CDT --- This is a known bug on Windows as well.
EA has refused to look into it, and repetitively denies it exists.
Wine does have a tendency to increase this bug.

--- Comment #13 from Matthew Reed wine@zootal.com --- I haven't seen this in a couple of years. We play sims 3 a lot in my house, I'm playing it now. Graphics have been solid for a while now. There is an occasional vector related problem that still persists, but it's not the same as this and is extremely difficult to duplicate. If the OP wants to close this, I'm good with that.

--- Comment #14 from Alexandr Oleynikov sashok.olen@gmail.com --- Matthew, does your problem resemble what is described in Bug 45361 ? If it does, please comment there and confirm you have this problem too.

--- Comment #15 from Matthew Reed wine@zootal.com --- YES!!!! That is *exactly* what I see! Not only that, I've been seeing this behavior for years. I added a comment to bug 45361, and I will see if I can duplicate it. We still play sims 3 a lot in my home, so I'll work on this a bit and ask others here to keep an eye out for it.
