Summary: Dragon Naturally Speaking 9 can't control mic volume Product: Wine Version: CVS/GIT Platform: Other URL: http://nuance.com OS/Version: other Status: NEW Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: wine-multimedia AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: dank@kegel.com
On one of my systems, DNS 9 pops up a warning during initial user training, complaining that it can't automatically set the mic volume. Indeed, you have to do it manually (via right clicking on the volume control icon on the system toolbar) on that system. Susan confirms this happens for her, too.
This is with the default ALSA settings.

--- Comment #1 from Maarten Lankhorst maarten@codeweavers.com 2007-12-12 00:11:25 --- Can you run 'amixer' and return the output as attachment?

--- Comment #2 from Maarten Lankhorst maarten@codeweavers.com 2007-12-12 16:49:41 --- Also, I just sent 2 patches related to the volume control to wine-patches, you might want to check if that fixes things for you too.

--- Comment #3 from Maarten Lankhorst maarten@codeweavers.com 2007-12-24 07:37:00 --- Ok it seems that for your microphone, the control 'Front Mic' has a volume switch, but it's in playback rather then capture, but still does what it's supposed to do, I'll work on a fix in mixer.

--- Comment #4 from Susan Cragin susancragin@earthlink.net 2008-05-05 15:19:22 --- WINE does control the mic volume in DNS now, and does a pretty good job of it. I was surprised to find that, even in Hardy Heron, with all the PulseAudio problems they've been having, that it works so well. I think this bug should be closed out.
Sadly, Hardy Heron has other sound problems, and my level of accuracy, according to DNS's scale, has slipped from 29 to 21, a huge decrease. However, this does not prevent the program from performing adequately for my needs.
