Bug ID: 38631 Summary: Portal 2: update 32 fails to load menu Product: Wine Version: 1.7.43 Hardware: x86-64 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: n296869@rtrtr.com Distribution: ---
Created attachment 51540 --> https://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=51540 wine 1.7.43 terminal output of Portal 2 upd 32; crash happens before reaching menu
This seems similar to bug 26835 but that should have been fixed ages ago. With latest update 32 provided by steam, Portal 2 crashes at the main menu in wine 1.7.43. Attached is the only information made available from the terminal regarding this bug.

--- Comment #1 from Béla Gyebrószki gyebro69@gmail.com --- Is this the Steam version or some 'custom build'? It won't run without Steam...
When was this 'update 32' released? I have Portal 2 on Steam, it was last updated somewhere in December 2014. The game starts properly when launching from Steam (it indeed crashes if I start directly with portal2.exe)
To get a backtrace you need to start the game with '-nominidumps -nobreakpad -noassert -nocrashdialog' command line options.

update 32 was released December 2011 to my knowledge. I have applied a non-steam patch since it is easier than installing steam in wine, and it is tested working fine on Windows.
I was able to get a backtrace using the command line options you provided.
Thanks.

--- Comment #3 from Béla Gyebrószki gyebro69@gmail.com --- (In reply to whatbug from comment #2)
I have applied a non-steam patch since it is easier than installing steam in wine, and it is tested working fine on Windows.
Pirated software is not supported here. Please take the effort to install steam and portal 2 in a clean wineprefix and if the problem is present open a new bug report.
Marking invalid.
