Summary: Legacy 5 - Can't check for online update Product: Wine Version: 0.9.57. Platform: PC-x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: minor Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: aganderson@ukonline.co.uk
It is not possible to check for online updates from Legacy - it just times out. I've just checked on XP and it responds immediately. On the same dialog box used to check for updates, there is a link to 'See what's new' and that works as expected.

This is on my laptop, which generated the +wininet trace:
getent hosts pyro 127.0.0.1 localhost pyro
Sorry about the delay. I've got 3-4 bugs on the go, two of them have collided and I just went three steps backward.
Anyway, here's mine:
aga@eve2-suse:~> getent hosts eve2-suse 127.0.0.2 eve2-suse.aganderson.net eve2-suse
If it's of any interest, I also did it for localhost:-
aga@eve2-suse:~> getent hosts localhost ::1 localhost ipv6-localhost ipv6-loopback

Sorry, but I'm a bit confused here. The link you give relates to configuration.
If I open Legacy, then click Internet/Check for Update, I get a dialog box. On the box there is a button to click to do the check. Also there are two other links shown. If I click the button to check for updates, An hourglass cursor appears, but eventually it times out and the dialog box is still there. If I then click either of the two links - See What's New or Legacy website - then the cursor is a bouncing ball and the connection succeeds almost immediately.
This, to me, doesn't look to be a configuration problem, but I'm open to be convinced.
Allan

--- Comment #9 from Kai Blin blin@gmx.net 2008-03-18 02:40:30 --- Could you please try the configuration change? We can still speculate wildly if that doesn't help, otherwise trust me on that one.

No change, I'm afraid. We'd already gone into this area (comment 5) so I was reasonably happy with /etc/hosts. However, I've now altered 127.0.0.1 to your recommendation, but it made no difference at all to the behaviour. 192.168.0.5 was OK.

--- Comment #11 from Lei Zhang thestig@google.com 2008-03-18 11:00:01 --- Happens on my desktop as well, where getent gives a 192.168.x.x address.
