Hi
I re-installed Ubuntu over Suse. As far as I know it is a clean Unbuntu since I chose it to format over the whole hard drive. I then went to get Wine and installed per instruction on first shot. As a new Linux type, 3 days from the Windows world, I'm not sure how to get you the terminal wine output requested.

Okay thanks I think
This helps me how? I read through the list where none of these situation seem to be equal to mine.
Simply put, how do I enable file print share share within Wine Linux (I assume) in order to proceed with installing Office 2003, re-importing pst files in Outlook and getting on with life.
Man, blue screen of death is looking awfully good right now

We need the terminal output to help diagnose the bug.

Bugzilla is not a support forum, it´s for reporting bugs. The AppDB/forums may have a guide for this.

I'm not sure how my question gets answered in AppDB/forums, while I can see a case for WineHQ. In any event I am a potential Wine user who remains without answers to a question. One person's AppDB is another bug. It would seem buggy when I did as instructed and Wine is not acting as promoted - for converting over windows users. Can anyone help me install my office 2003 within Wine? How do I get past current print and file block?
Mike (currently linux constipated because I can't convert over from Windows)

INVALID???
What information do you need other than provided?
I just installed Ubuntu 8.10 this week. I installed Wine. I put my Office 2003 in the CD. I open it with Wine Open and get the error mentioned regarding print and file share.
I asked earlier how to get requested output since I stated that I am a three day Linux user, from the Windows world.
I wait for days to get answers and in less than a half hour - it is marked invalid.
Again I'm willing to figure it out. Anyone out there who can help?
Mike

It is a BUG if I cannot install - what Wine HQ says I can do with it.
Where's your support channel if that's where I am suppose to start and I'll go there - am I to assume that they will be just as gentle there.
As a new 3 day old Ubuntu user from the Windows world, why would anyone assume that I would know what is a terminal output? Are you asking for a print screen for instance. If you are referring to application, accessories and then terminal, then I've got it. Now what? I assume that there is a command to be entered in order to gain the output that I need to submit. What's the command? If you can help, then I can give you your terminal output - as I have said now for the third time.
I welcome those who can positively help me, help them - to fix my install issues. Thanks

Are you FAQ'in me? This is #1 bug/support mistake not seen since DOS.
I don't have time for reading, I'm a former windows user - not to mention I've got a business to run.
That said I got past the initial bug reported i.e. Office 2003 doesn't install. Plus I did it without a terminal output which is eerily similar to DOS command prompts.
I now open Outlook where everything is fine, except I get a Word error that I don't have enough memory to use it. To reiterate I open Outlook and get a Word memory error. I have 2Gb of RAM.
So I open Word and so far it seems to work.
I open Excel and and Powerpoint, where both seem to hang - like a bad date. At least with the blue screen of death, I knew that I was dead.
Oh and another thing, I installed Maxtor software. Why? Well of course Linux can't read my OneTouch USB external storage - where I backed up all my previous Windows world files. Imagine it installs but stalls at the end of course around the services area it seems.
Therefore I challenge Wine project members - IF you are seeking to bridge the conversion of former Windows users to the Linux - THEN feel free to convert me. Linux and Wine promises have put my business in a tough position.
Again I welcome positive, constructive and useful bug support. Wine is 'no question' a buggy application to date.
Good luck otherwise

And now please stop abusing bugzilla, this is not the appropriate place for that sort of ranting. I'd suggest /dev/null instead.

If somebody can confirm the above, we should probably open a new bug report for this (reopening this one isn't a good idea because of the bad vibe in the comments).

I can confirm that it is a bug. And yes, I'm frustrated with making it work.
Since initial post, I was able to finally install Office 2003 from Small Business Edition CD within Ubuntu 8.10 on Toshiba Tecra M2
Before you ask, I know where the Terminal app is but I don't know how to get you an output as Austin repeatedly asked for it.
So far, Word works. Outlook opens and works but at the start up it gives you a Word 11.0 error, of not enough memory. Clicking on Import function, I get a 'operation fail' error.
Excel seems to be ok to date, PowerPoint as well
Publisher opens but attempting to save any test document causes it to crash
At your disposal,
Mike
