--- Comment #7 from Anastasius Focht focht@gmx.net --- Hello folks,
--- quote --- I can't reproduce this in 1.8-rc3. --- quote ---
that's interesting because Spotify doesn't work with plain Wine 1.7.5X/1.8-rcX -> bug 39446 You have to use Wine-Staging to get anything useful = main user interface shown. Just clicking 'X' on an empty main (login) window doesn't really count.
Aside from that ... OP's backtrace:
--- snip --- 00000022 wdfmgr.exe ... 000000b4 Screencast-O-Matic.exe --- snip ---
These processes are certainly not part of a Spotify installation. Don't report bugs when the WINEPREFIX has been reused/recycled for multiple software installations - it makes bug reports automatically invalid. Use shared prefixes at your own risk!
I wasted some time trying to reproduce the original crash by using old Wine 1.7.18 but it seems even then there was no way to get it properly up with current Spotify client.
http://www.filehorse.com/download-spotify/old-versions/
I must assume OP didn't tell the whole truth here, that is:
* used an old version of Spotify (you must specify the *exact* client version!) * changed Windows version * something else
Leaving out essential information how to reproduce is not nice and basically causes bug reports being dismissed/ignored.

I can't reproduce bug 39446, either. I tested with plain Wine 1.8-rc3, in a clean wineprefix. I have never used the staging branch, and I assure you I know the difference. I get a login screen.
Perhaps it is because I installed with SpotifyFullSetup.exe rather than SpotifySetup.exe.

Perhaps it is because I installed with SpotifyFullSetup.exe rather than SpotifySetup.exe.
I am also in the U.S. Perhaps a difference between the U.S. and European clients?

--- Comment #10 from Anastasius Focht focht@gmx.net --- Hello folks,
please provide a downlink link to US version if you think that Spotify distributes different client variants.
Every client I found so far exhibits the same behaviour.

That's the installer I used, downloaded from http://download.spotify.com/SpotifyFullSetup.exe. The version reported in Settings, About Spotify is 1.0.19.106.gb8a7150f.
My original test was with 1.8-rc3. I just did two clean installs with 1.8-rc4, one to a 32 bit wineprefix and one to a 64 bit one. In both cases Spotify installed without any problem, has a visible login screen, and I can login, browse, and stream music. In the 64 bit prefix, when I play a track, Spotify briefly pops up a message saying it can't play the track, then proceeds to play it anyway, but I think that's a separate issue.
One thing I did notice that may be relevant to this bug is that while nothing crashes on my system when I click the upper right close button, SpotifyWebHelper.exe remains running in the background. That in itself isn't a Wine bug, though; I tested the same version of Spotify in an XP VM, and SpotifyWebHelper.exe remains running there, too, after clicking the close button.
I am on openSUSE 13.1, Nvidia GT630, 346.35 driver.

--- Comment #12 from Louis Lenders xerox.xerox2000x@gmail.com --- Hi,
i wonder how useful this bugreport is really as it evolved.
Two commenters could not reproduce the crash, so shall we close this one?
Spotify constantly updates itsself so i guess this will be really hard to reproduce ever
@ reporter of bug: can you somehow still reproduce the crash?

--- Comment #13 from Louis Lenders xerox.xerox2000x@gmail.com --- On second thought: as only reporter of bug seemed to run in this, and there`s no response for 4 years, I`ll just resolve this abandoned.
If anyone would like to test old Spotify versions to try reproduce this crash please feel free to reopen if you still run into this crash.
