Summary: Women's Murder Club: Death in Scarlet misses (almost) all texts Product: Wine Version: unspecified Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: directx-d3d AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: edheldil001@eowyn.cz
Created an attachment (id=22983) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=22983) wmc log
Hi, most ingame texts are missing in this game. The only notable exception is Change Profile (and profile name) in the main menu, possibly because it's done differently, because other menu entries (in other place) are invisible. Other than that, they are snsitive to the (invisible) mouse cursor.
The mouse cursor is missing everywhere except of the initial loading screen.
I guess these errors are probably caused by the same bug, see log. Please ignore the gecko error, it did not work even before wine update broke gecko.
Regards, Edheldil

Is this still an issue with a recent Wine? Also, what video card and driver are you using?
I ask this because I remembered having the same problem (no text in game) on my previous installation (Fedora 14). However, on my current Fedora 15 installation the game displays text (menu options) correctly. I can still reproduce the problem with an older Wine (around 1.1.35) but any versions past Wine-1.2.3 renders the text correctly. I haven't checked this bug for several months but I'm sure the problem was still there in Wine-1.3.x on Fedora 14 so I wonder if the fix might come from a Nvidia driver update?
Here's another, direct download link for the the demo (75 MB) in case anyone wants to test it: http://www.gamershell.com/download_25930.shtml
Fedora 15 Nvidia GeForce 250 / driver 275.19

--- Comment #6 from Rafal Stanilewicz washuu@eastnews.com.pl 2012-03-06 06:04:34 CST --- I have wine 1.4-rc6 on Ubuntu 11.10 32-bit, and integrated Intel video card.
Everything works OK (game runs, sound plays, fonts are visible and readable etc) except uninstaller - it doesn't show buttons, and even when I click the invisible button, it doesn't do anything.

--- Comment #8 from edheldil001@eowyn.cz 2012-03-06 06:14:06 CST --- Yeah, it started to work for me some time around wine 1.2 as well. As far as I remember it ran flawlessly then. I do not bother with uninstaller and delete whole wine instance.
The graphics was NVidia 8600 with proprietary drivers.

Reported fixed.
I retested the demo with Wine-1.4-rc6 and text appears as it should in the game.
