Summary: Sound plays 4 times too fast in winecfg and some applications Product: Wine Version: 1.1.0 Platform: PC-x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: major Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: mgsx2@hotmail.com
I have a serious sound problem with CS 1.6 since Wine 0.9.60 or so. The sounds are played much too fast, like 4 times the normal speed and sound very high. This happens with all possible playback settings in Wine and CS.
The problem occurs with the most recent CS 1.6 Steam, ALSA and OSS, Wine 1.1.0 on Debian Sid and 2.6.26rc7 kernel. Sound card driver is provided by the linux kernel intel-hda family "Analog Devices AD1988B".
Other games run fine, without any sound problems. My audio configuration is correct and I do not have any problems in games like Warcraft 3 or applications like Rosetta Stone.
The problem also occurs when I click the Test Sound button in winecfg "Audio".
It happens with all possible settings, sample rates, hardware accelerations levels, driver settings (emulation or not) and with ALSA *and* OSS. I tried all possible combinations.

--- Comment #1 from Vitaliy Margolen vitaliy@kievinfo.com 2008-07-09 22:51:19 --- Looks like system problem and not Wine. Especially on the test kernel. Not major since everything else works fine. Please report problem to kernel list not here.

--- Comment #2 from MGSX2 mgsx2@hotmail.com 2008-07-10 10:13:38 --- Why a kernel problem?
Besides winecfg and CS 1.6, all other applications -even when run with wine- are working fine and without any problem.

Why a kernel problem?
Because that's where the ALSA is. There are lots of audio formats and if one plays doesn't mean every other one will. Winecfg sound is the same sound for everyone. If it does not work for you - that means it's the problem in your environment not Wine.
Closing invalid - Not Wine bug.
