Summary: NOLF GotY: Long audio samples get truncated Product: Wine Version: 1.1.7 Platform: PC-x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: directx-dsound AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: liquid.acid@gmx.net
Created an attachment (id=16938) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=16938) Normal console output from wine run (no WINEDEBUG)
Using (unpatched) GotY version of the game "No One Lives Forever". I didn't find a patch for the GotY one. I suspect it's already patched.
Issue: Long audio samples get truncated. This happens for example with the intro sequence music or when characters have conversations. Audio is simply cut off at the end. Pretty bad if subtitles are off.
Going to attach the console output. Nothing suspicious there.
Setting component to directx-dsound since I'm pretty sure that NOLF uses a dsound audio backend.
Greets, Tobias

--- Comment #1 from Per Hansen phobieweb@yahoo.de 2008-10-27 17:55:30 --- NOLF GOTY is like NOLF with the latest patch plus some extra levels.
I can confirm the problem. And I have the same problem in StarCraft...

--- Comment #2 from Tobias Jakobi liquid.acid@gmx.net 2008-10-27 18:26:42 --- Well, I seem to get the issue (partially resolved) by throttling the CPU frequency to 1GHz (usually 2.2GHz, it's an Athlon64). I've also enabled VSync with nvidia-settings.
This lets long audio samples play without truncation, but now mouse input is a bit laggy. I'm trying to figure out a good combination of VSync and CPU speed to get this running.
Leaving this open, since it might be fixable by other means.

--- Comment #3 from Tobias Jakobi liquid.acid@gmx.net 2008-11-02 18:28:36 --- Googling reveals that this problem also appears in a native environment when a fast machine is used (fast when considering the age of the game).
Solving as INVALID, since it's not a wine bug. I'm adding a comment to the AppDB, so other people can see how to fix this.
