--- Comment #2 from Rico kgbricola@web.de 2008-03-15 16:39:57 --- 1. Could you add anymore information so that anyone could try to reproduce this? 2. What driver version, gpu, distro do you have? 3. Have you tried with a fresh .wine directory? 4. Do you have combiz/beryl running?

--- Comment #4 from Gareth tgheretford@fast4.net 2008-04-05 12:29:00 --- Confirming on my own computer. I am using Compiz/Emerald but GTA SA has worked quite a few times before. With me, first of all, the game crashed after I left the safe house where I saved the game. Then, the game crashed when I loaded my save game. Now, the game will not load at all.
Trying this on the command line shows the same problem as the reporter of this bug.
I have done a crash log above and I hope this is appropriate.

--- Comment #5 from Gareth tgheretford@fast4.net 2008-04-05 12:49:49 --- Restarting my computer seems to have got the game working again, but it isn't an ideal solution.

--- Comment #6 from Alexander Dorofeyev alexd4@inbox.lv 2008-04-05 13:33:57 --- What graphic hardware, what drivers?
Did it ever work before? If it worked better in some prior Wine versions, try to do a regression test, that may help to fix it faster, see: http://wiki.winehq.org/RegressionTesting.

Not that it worked before but I have patched the game to play it without a cd. I used to be able to play this game, but back then I was using ubuntu gutsey (now hardy) and an nvidia graphics card (now ati)

1. Please read this http://wiki.winehq.org/PreloaderPageZeroProblem to solve your first problem.
2. Please read the FAQ (http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ) section 1.1.
3. What videocard driver version? Could you have a look here http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=3780 and try another version ?
4. Could you try a newer wine version? Note that there is bug 12979.
5. Where does the game crash? Shortly after the start?

--- Comment #9 from Dan Ziemba zman0900@gmail.com 2008-06-27 00:33:31 --- I too was getting this same crash, the only output was:
fixme:system:SystemParametersInfoW Unimplemented action: 8193 (SPI_SETFOREGROUNDLOCKTIMEOUT)
I would run the game as: env WINEPREFIX="<path-to-wine-prefix>" wine "<windows-path-to>\gta_sa.exe" and it would immediately crash without starting the game at all.
I was finally able to get it to start by simply cd-ing into the directory where gta_sa.exe was, then running the game as: env WINEPREFIX="<path-to-wine-prefix>" wine gta_sa.exe
I had to play around with the setting some both with and without the desktop emulation setting on to get it to fullscreen properly, but now it works.

Yep, same problem here. I am using an ATI card with fglrx graphics. I use compiz fusion and emerald but it doesn't run even when I use metacity. I'm using the latest Ubuntu distro.
I am using GTA san andreas that I patched to 1.01. I then patched gta_sa.exe with a no cd patch. I know this combination works fine in Windows.
Need any more info, just ask!

--- Comment #11 from Richard stinkinrich88@gmail.com 2008-07-04 13:23:47 --- oh, sorry, forgot to say:
I was getting the exact same error as the reporter until I followed the advice of another comment and cd-ed to the gtasa directory then wined it from there. The backlog I attached is what I get when I run gta_sa.exe from it's directory

--- Comment #12 from Richard stinkinrich88@gmail.com 2008-07-04 13:32:38 --- ohh, sorry, I just realised I posted here back in April. This is a reply for Rico:
1. I no longer get this problem when I cd to the GTAsa folder before running it
2. done
3. I'm using fglrx and I really don't wanna mess with different drivers again. I had loads of trouble getting my ATI HD2400 to work in the first place
4. I'm using the latest version of Wine now
5. Yeah, straight away. Nothing loads on my screen at all (except a black screen which is quickly replaced with my desktop again in 800x600 resolution)
cheers

--- Comment #15 from Gregor Münch greg87@online.de 2008-07-26 08:21:37 --- Looking through this bug report seems that the app just dont like to be run from another directory. I guess this is not a wine bug... Also fixmes are no crashes.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12013
--- Comment #16 from Jan Kalab pitel@nomi.cz 2008-07-26 09:07:45 --- It was launched from the same directory as usual, it worked in Wine 1.1.1, so I think it is Wine bug.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12013
--- Comment #17 from Rico kgbricola@web.de 2008-07-26 10:44:08 --- Could you remove your .wine directory or move it somewhere else and try again? If it doesn't solve your problem, please run a regression test ( http://wiki.winehq.org/RegressionTesting ).
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12013
--- Comment #18 from Gregor Münch greg87@online.de 2008-07-26 14:18:03 --- We probably should mark this bug as invalid. For me GTA:SA is working with 1.1.2. Jan if you can reproduce the problem with a clean .wine directory and verified its a regression you should open a new bug for it, because we should not mix two different problems in the same bug report.

--- Comment #21 from Gustavo superomen@gmail.com 2009-03-26 21:35:16 --- Is this report permanently closed, then? Bug 17504 ( http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17504 ) seems to be the same, so I'm posting my logs over there, as it's still open. If that's the one that should be discontinued so that this can be reactivated, please say so and I'll repost my logs here. Just for the sake of information, this is happenning to me at a clean .wine dir, both in Wine 1.1.17 and 1.0.1, in a NVIDIA card.
