Osu! (http://osu.ppy.sh/p/download) does not work with wine 1.7.40 & 1.7.41. Downgrading to version 1.7.39 works fine however.
I just get the Osu! error screen telling me that it crashed.

i can not reproduce the issue with my own compiled version of wine.
I tried reusing the official PKGBUILD https://projects.archlinux.org/svntogit/community.git/tree/trunk/PKGBUILD?h=...
I couldn't find out how the official wine tarball is created so i did the following:
1. clone the wine repository 2- git checkout wine-1.7.40 3. tar.gz that entire folder 4. feed that tar.gz to the PKGBUILD (modified the sha1sum and source)
and this Version works without a problem for me.
If i use the official prebuild binary Osu crashes. Not sure what i do wrong...
I will try to use the unmodified PKGBUILD tommorow i hope that at least this version will show the problem again...

well one of the problems is that osu! is updated/rewritten with different .NET Framework version targets and you recycle the same ticket from 7 years ago for different problems.

OP obviously used native .NET Framework hence this is not about Wine-Mono insufficiencies. In addition it shows more native recipes have been applied to the WINEPREFIX.
Important: Always tell if you installed native dependencies (applied 'winetricks' recipes)!
Anyway, it's impossible to replicate to old install/code base because the web-installer will always fetch the latest version which is some .NET Framework 4.6+ ish.
Resolving 'abandoned' here.
$ wine --version wine-4.9-216-g381c4e7b66
