--- Comment #2 from J. William Cupp cupp@computer.org 2013-06-09 17:45:06 CDT --- Sorry -- read the page on regression testing and it looks a little beyond my capabilities.
Is there some other data I can provide to assist?

--- Comment #5 from J. William Cupp cupp@computer.org 2013-06-09 21:07:07 CDT --- There was no terminal output. When attempting to start the program whether by prepared launcher or by terminal command, the outcome was the same. A pop up window with the WINE icon wine goblet and the message "Unexpected error; quitting."

--- Comment #6 from J. William Cupp cupp@computer.org 2013-06-09 21:09:59 CDT --- Created attachment 44725 --> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=44725 Installer program
This is the program that would not run under WINE 1.5.29.
When it would not run, I attempted to remove it and re-install it and the installer would not work, either. Same symptoms.
(The installer may not get a complete working version. I have a few work arounds that, following running this installer, are necessary to make the program work. But I am confident that if the installer runs even without completely installing the program, the program itself would run.)

--- Comment #7 from J. William Cupp cupp@computer.org 2013-06-09 21:12:09 CDT --- More background information: with yum and some outside guidance, I was able to roll back to WINE 1.5.2 and the application program now runs.
In my yum history, I think I was on WINE 1.5.25 when the program last worked. However, under WINE 1.5.29 it did not work.
I understand there is a later version of WINE available but it is not available through yum (yet).

What version of the Windows application "Gradebook for Windows" did you use? What distribution?
Also, the attached setup file from comment 6 doesn't work (claims it need SETUP.LST).

That program runs fine for me in 1.5.29 and wine-1.6-rc1-18-gb82a5ab. (Aside from bug 22616).

Did you try the download from the website (gb.zip)? Was it a clean WINEPREFIX? Are you using a 32-bit or 64-bit OS? The terminal output would also be useful.
You may get better help on the forums for basic debugging, fyi.

--- Comment #17 from J. William Cupp cupp@computer.org 2013-06-19 01:26:38 CDT --- The program in comment 9 is the same program GradeBook for Windows Version 2.5.1.0 but I have version 3.07. I have confirmed it does not work for me in WINE 1.5.29 but it does work in WINE 1.5.2.
(Sorry; I was away for a few days). If there is some other data I can provide please let me know and I'll try. The regression testing thing looks a little beyond my capability.

--- Comment #18 from J. William Cupp cupp@computer.org 2013-06-19 01:35:06 CDT --- Correction: I am not certain whether it is the same program or not. The author's name is similar but not identical. The program name is the same. However, my version 3 seems to be much older than the linked program's version 2.
I have found this link: http://www.rredware.com/gbdown.htm which tells the product is discontinued but the icon shown is the same as the program I have.

Can you tell what was the installer file name you used, and a SHA1 checksum?
e.g. use 'sha1sum myInstallFile.exe' and report the result

--- Comment #20 from J. William Cupp cupp@computer.org 2013-06-19 01:55:01 CDT --- $ sha1sum SETUP.EXE 267a8f09c2c41a7106f5c80d97bf238a5e3c62c2 SETUP.EXE
This installer program is the one I have from the licensed copy I own.
Based on file date data, I have apparently been using this on Linux since 2007.
I just tried downloading the latest (final) version of the same program v3.11 and installing over the licensed copy I have, but this undoes the registration. The newest version also works in WINE 1.5.2.
The installer listed here also works, as I was able to re-install v3.07 over top of v3.11 and return to a running registered copy.
