Bug ID: 40016 Summary: Age of Empires 3: Impossible to enter product key, too large font Product: Wine Version: 1.9.1 Hardware: x86-64 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: rencer@euromail.hu Distribution: ---
Im using a 64-bit Manjaro Linux.
When the installation process asks for product key, it is impossible to enter it because the fonts ar too large.
You have to enter 5 characters in each field, but only 3 or 4 characters fit in. I already try to chaneg the font size in the "system.reg" file, but it does not effect the font size in the game's installer.
But I realized; not all characters don't fit! If I enter only numerics it is possible to enter 5 characters. (any numeric) It seems you can enter 5 characters if they are "thin" (like I, J), but you can enter 3 or 4 characters only with "fat" characters (like O, W, etc.).
(English is not my native language, so if not clear enough what is the problem, just tell me, and I try my best, to explain it with other words.)

--- Comment #1 from Sebastian Lackner sebastian@fds-team.de --- This sounds like a duplicate of existing bugs. Most likely the critical font is "Courier New". Installing the original MS font with winetricks (or using "Wine Staging", which ships with a replacement font with same font metrics) works around this issue. Could you please confirm if this helps?

--- Comment #2 from Rencer rencer@euromail.hu --- Thanks!
Putting the Courier New font (I extracted that from my WindowsXp CD) to my ~/.fonts folder solved the problem.
P.S.:
Does not the Courier New font is some kind of a standard font in Windows? I think it is a good idea if this font was installed default with Wine, so no more problems like this. Anyway, thanks again for the help.

Glad that you solved the issue.
The original MS font cannot be shipped with wine because of license and copyright reasons. For Wine Staging we already ship a replacement font which also solves this bug.
Marking as duplicate of 20456 which describes the same issue.
