Summary: Final Fantasy XIV Characters not rendering properly Product: Wine Version: 1.3.1 Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: 2jp.ebd@gmail.com
I was able to get the client installed, patched, log in and able to actually enter the game. Characters fail to render properly, but scenery and menus seem to render ok. See attached image for example of what it looks like

Possible, but I'd expect slowdown not exploding models. Oh well in the market for new hardware anyways. Figured I'd throw this out there since I hadn't seen any reports of anyone even getting ingame. Didn't know if anyone had seen some thing similar in a different situation.
Thanks.

--- Comment #6 from Andrew Church achurch+wine@achurch.org 2010-10-06 05:19:49 CDT --- I hate to suggest the classic Windows solution, but have you tried rebooting? I've experienced a similar problem running the benchmark (1GB GeForce 9500 GT, same driver), but it only happens occasionally, and it generally fixes itself after a reboot. There may be some code path used in Wine's Direct3D implementation that triggers a bug in the driver.

Funny you mention that. I turned on my computer last night and ran it for kicks, and the characters rendered fine. I quit and started it back up and it was back to the mess. I tried a third time and it went black after the SquareEnix logo after hitting play and then never went further. This third case then became the normal behavior, rarely going back to the mess state, even after another reboot.

--- Comment #9 from Scott Ritchie scott@open-vote.org 2010-10-06 20:06:50 CDT --- There are later NVidia drivers available (Ubuntu 10.10, for instance, ships with 260.19.06).
I agree with the diagnosis of a graphics driver bug though, especially if you do the following:
1) copy .wine folder 2) run one copy and not have bug 3) wineserver -k 4) run second copy and have bug

--- Comment #10 from Joe Robinson joe@thepirateradio.com 2010-10-09 14:53:47 CDT --- I have encountered this bug, but it has been fixed by either rebooting or simply restarting X.
I would also say that it has only happened after chaning FFXIV's configuration settings, but I did that so many times that that could just be coincidental.
I'm running the most recent (260.19.06) version of nvidia-drivers, and using a GTX 285 which has no issues running the game. A friend has also run it on a Geforce 8800 without encountering this problem (also on the most recent drivers), so I don't think it is related to that.
I also had this issue when running the benchmark a while ago, and either encountered this problem, or the game rendered fine but ran incredibly slowly. However, at that point I didn't make much effort to make the game work.
I'm running ever d3d related dll in native mode also.

--- Comment #12 from Mike Masterson themikemasterson@gmail.com 2012-07-31 15:36:22 CDT --- I have this bug occasionally in 1.4.1 and 1.5.9 with a 560Ti using whatever driver is used by OS X 10.7.4. My issues is not with exploding character models, however, but with everything but the cheekbone and shoulder texture disappearing entirely for every character model in game.

What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- CC| |tdb@tdb.fi
--- Comment #15 from Mikko Rasa tdb@tdb.fi --- This does not occur with Wine 2.9. The age of this bug indicates that it's from FFXIV 1.x, which was discontinued in 2012. Version 2.0 of the game was completely rewritten from scratch.
