When attempting to save a spreadsheet as ****.xls, the save is aborted and the
message box appear with the message "Disk Full"

Was the file previously saved in Open Office? If so, this is a duplicate of bug
13822.

This spreadsheet was downloaded from
http://www.sourdoughhome.com/downloads/converter.zip

Not known if was saved previously by OpenOffice Spreadsheet.

As a test I created an OpenOffice 3.0 spreadsheet, saved it, opened it with
Wine/Excel 2003, and successfuly saved it from Excel.

The version field in bugzilla is just the original reported version. That bug 
still affects current Wine.

But since you say you can save over Open Office xls files in current Wine, I
have to ask, do you have any overrides set for Excel?

I do not know what an override is.  Provide a little direction and I'll be
pleased to check it out.

Wine (0.92 I seem to recall, upgraded normally using Ubuntu's software update
from WineHQ depository) was a straight install in Ubuntu 8.04, since upgraded
to 8.10.  Office 2003 was a straight install in Wine.

Office was installed to use Word's outlining capabilities. Excel is basically
unused, as OpenOffice is quite sufficient.

Open a terminal and use the command winecfg (Or in gnome:
Applications->Wine->Configure Wine, in the Libraries tab, there is a box titled
"Existing Overrides", check there if you have any override set.

I had no problem saving the file mentioned in comment #2 in 1.1.31 in both
Excel 2003 & 2007.

I also have no problems with the file from comment #2 in Excel 2003 with
today's git.  Seems fixed to me.
