Bug ID: 39335 Summary: Evernote 5.9.x - cannot browse or edit notes Product: Wine Version: 1.7.50 Hardware: x86-64 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: falconepl@gmail.com Distribution: ---
When Evernote 5.9.x (e.g. the latest Evernote 5.9.1.8742) is started up, your recently modified note (e.g. on another device) is being displayed. However, when one tries to jump to some other note, by selecting an element on "All notes" list, the content of the currently displayed note is not changed (only note's header is being updated - information on note's creation date etc.)
Only when you double click on given note element from your notes list, a pop-up window with that note's content/text shows up, but the note cannot be edited.
The last version of Evernote that hasn't got these problems was Evernote 5.8.13.8152.
Tested under Wine 1.7.50.

--- Comment #1 from Guillaume R guillaumeraffin@free.fr --- I have this bug too, on Evernote 5.9.0.8665. The content of the note, on the right side of the app window, is never refreshed and always shows the content of the first note. However when I double-click a note, I can edit it.
Tested under Wine 1.7.50, Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS.

--- Comment #2 from Guillaume R guillaumeraffin@free.fr --- Created attachment 52480 --> https://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=52480 Errors displayed in the log when opening a note
The problem seems to be an unsupported feature in Wine.

The "double-click" workaround doesn't work anymore as of Evernote 5.9.1

It is, but not for Evernote 6.2 or newer, which would make it a different bug.

Can you be more precise about the working environment? (wine version, installed components, is ie8 installed...)
A winxp 32bit environment doesn't work for me (note content is still not displayed), using wine-2.0-rc4 packages from winhq with Ubuntu 16.04 - even after installation of ie8.

Wine 2.0-rc4 on Ubuntu MATE 16.10 64 bit
New prefix
winxp & win32
winetricks -q ie8
$ sha1sum Evernote_6.4.2.3788.exe 36e0a49ddfc12cd098780abcded881f0a4a6bb46 Evernote_6.4.2.3788.exe
This works for me.
Tested before on the same environment, but with win7 instead of winxp. And that didn't work.

Thanks for the details. But for me that doesn't fix the issue :(
Only difference I see is the Ubuntu release (16.04 instead of 16.10), but as architecture and wine version are identical I don't think that it is the reason.
What information is needed for further debugging?

Maybe it's becauseof the winetricks' version? Ubuntu 16.04 appears to use a very old version (20141009) whereas Ubuntu 16.10 use 20160425.

--- Comment #15 from winetaste@gmx.net --- Tested on another machine, but again with Ubuntu MATE 16.10 and it is there like I said, too. Winxp works win7 does not.
Guillaume R, same for you?
I am always using latest winetricks (20170101) from Github.

On Fedora 25, Evernote starts with win7, but it fails to connect to the server. If I connect to my account with winXP and then restart Evernote with win7, I can browse my notes, edit things, etc. but the synchronization and any feature that requires connecting to the internet won't work.

Sorry, my bad. Wine was still running in a 64bit environment. With winetricks from github for ie8 installation and 32bit WinXP environment it works for me, too.
FYI: Evernote was unable to sync my notes during the first run (in the installation process) but synced them at the next start.
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=39335
--- Comment #18 from winetaste@gmx.net --- Sync issues seems to be in relation to crashes/continuing Evernote issues in background(Bug 38880). When I have a clean closing and restart sync works immediately. In the other case Evernote doesn't even find older notes locally. (In reply to Guillaume R from comment #16)

Can confirm this.
