During my work with Office 2007 i've noticed that it has problems with my
extended desktop environment:

When i switch a ribbon based application like word or excel 2007 from window
mode to full mode everything works on my primary monitor (i can repeat it
without problems).

On the extended monitor the switch from window to full works for the first
time. If the switch is performed a few times (usually two times) 
 * the window is stuck at the extended monitor and maintaining full mode
    and 
 * all dialog windows (e.g. file open dialog) do not appear because the main
window has a permanent focus (the dialog windows are behind the main program
window and wait for OK --> as the buttons are out-of-reach, the program looks
completely "frozen")

This situation then is permanently maintained because this setting ist stored
in the registry under HKEY_CURRENT_USER

* for Word [Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Data]
    * for Excel [Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Excel\Options]

Workarround is:

* Word: Delete in [Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Data] the
REG_BINARY "Settings"
    * Excel: Change in [Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Excel\Options] the
DWORD Maximized from X to 0

and restart the respective programms.

The tested systems configuration was:

* Ubuntu 9.10
* Intel Corporation 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller
* Compiz deactivated 
* Extended Desktop performed using xrandr

This ticket has not been updated for over 900 days.

Is this still an issue in wine version 1.6-rc3 or higher or is this to be
closed as abandoned ?

A variant of this (new bug?) is still present in wine 1.7.32 and have been for
a long time.
On KDE 4.14.3 this is what happens with Word/Excel 2007:

Windowed mode
* the main Excel/Word window cannot be moved
* window cannot be maximized again
* window cannot be sent to other screen (while using a dual-screen setup)
* size of window cannot be changed by dragging the borders

Full-screen mode
* window cannot be moved to another screen
* when you press the "restore window" button up on right the window will resize
into a smaller size window (the size seems arbitrary to me space of 2% top, 4%
right, 0% bottom, 12% left), but cannot be restored to full-screen.

Workaround to get back to full-screen in Excel:
* Press the restore/full-screen button on top right of an internal window
 -> the main window become full-screen.

(Does not work on Word, you have to restart the application. Luckily it always
starts i full-screen mode)

Further investigation shows that if "Allow the window manager to control the
windows" is disabled in Winecfg the window can be maximized/restored without
problems. However, the downside is that it does not show up in the taskbar.
Is the bug in wine or KDE?

Does this still occur in Wine 9.8 or later?
