Bug #: 28651 Summary: Error 36 when using Simcity 3000 1.1 UK Patch Product: Wine Version: 1.3.30 Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: wyattmeister@gmail.com Classification: Unclassified
When I try and patch Simcity up to 1.1 the program reports "Installation failed. Error Code = 36". Nothing is reported in the terminal when this happens.
I tried the same patch using the same version of Simcity in my Windows XP VM and the patch installed successfully.
The version of Simcity I'm using is one I bought in the UK, there was a later UK edition but mine is the original 1.0 version released here in the UK.
I ran the file in Windows XP mode, I also tried it with WINE 1.28 and had the same issue. I'm using WINE 1.30 which I got from the WINE PPA, it's compiled for Ubuntu Oneiric.
The filename of the patch is: BATPATCH_EnglishUK.exe and you can find it here: http://www.shacknews.com/file/769/simcity-3000-building-architect-tool-uk-ed...
It has a script which runs 2 parts, the patch itself and the Building Architect Tool. I extracted it and just ran the patch (PATCH.EXE) to make the debug log smaller. The other part of the installer which installs the Building Architect Tool installs fine.
The command I used was just "wine PATCH.EXE".

http://web.archive.org/web/20090117044724/http://simcity3000unlimited.ea.com...
It's supposed to appear if you use the wrong patch with the wrong version, but in this case I'm quite certain I'm using the correct version.

--- Comment #3 from Louis Lenders xerox_xerox2000@yahoo.co.uk 2011-10-11 12:56:43 CDT --- I took a look at the debuglog. It is endlessly looking for a file called AUDIO.DLL I guess that's part of the game? Then you see this in the log:
0009:Call user32.wvsprintfA(10021818,10028d3c "Old File not found. However, a file of the same name was \n fou nd. No update done since file contents do not match.\n",0032e028) ret=10013696
So somehow i guess this has to be resolved?

--- Comment #4 from Chris Wyatt wyattmeister@gmail.com 2011-10-12 09:02:03 CDT --- I replaced AUDIO.DLL with the one from my Windows XP VM, and it worked! Thanks for spotting this, I had a glance at the debug log but there was a lot of stuff in there, and I didn't notice the AUDIO.DLL message, so thanks for pointing that out.
It's an old CD and a little bit scratched so it's possible the file was corrupted, if this seems likely then this issue could be closed.

--- Comment #5 from Chris Wyatt wyattmeister@gmail.com 2011-10-12 09:10:35 CDT --- I ran a diff with the old AUDIO.DLL which I'd backed up, and the one on the CD and they do differ, so it looks like it had just corrupted.
