sry for offending your sensibilities. I was unaware and did not see your exclamations before posting a second time. I will now on use attachments. as to upgrading to the latest wine version, I am not sure (as a relatively noobish linux user) how to do that in ubuntu w/o screwing up my system. most of my makefile and other compliling attempts have been disastrous, and thus I am "compile shy". If this is what I should do, I will. however I hope that the answer is somewhat easier. Thx for posting at all, and angry help is better than none!
