As I have the 1.2 (Steam) version of the title, wine is attached to Steam.exe and dirt.exe is invoked from within the Steam GUI -- logfile has been expurgated to remove Steam client startup/shutdown chatter...

I've the same problem, patch is 1.22 (no starforce, yay)...same output aswell. wine version: self compiled: wine-1.2-rc1.
nvidia driver: 185.18.36 graphiccard: nvidia geforce 7800gtx (my ati was killed a few days ago, together with mainboard, harddisk, ram and cpu) system: ubuntu 9.10

Well, I wouldn't say it displays *exactly* the same problem, but, it is snookered by the same thing -- the need for .NET 3.5 ; so the answer is likely to be "yes"

At the moment, if enabled the Steam gameoverlayUI stuff seems to provoke a crash starting the game -- disabling that results in the same behavior as experienced previously with this title, go to start > gets to blackscreen > nada ... I'll attach a logfile when I get a chance to have a closer look at things...
