Screen shot of error message.

Quicken 2007 Basic now, "appears to load" but when attempting to load quicken
files, qdf etc., I receive a "Comm Error" message indicating an error.  It
takes three attempts at closing the "Comm Error" message.  When the message
finally closes the program crashes.

Log generated when opening Quicken 2007 Deluxe

Quicken installed fine and restored my data file from a usb stick.  The
following error occurs when after the command is issued.

michael@michael-desktop:~$ wine "c:\Quicken\qw.exe"

The attached log file contains the rest of the error which is generated after
going to File -> Open and selecting the data file on the c:.

Michael, how did you do your install?  I've seen this error during startup of
Quicken 2007 Home & Business, but only after installing gdiplus via winetricks:

# winetricks gdiplus

After installing that, I too get the com error at startup.  Prior to that I was
having other problems, but the program was getting further than it does now.

Did you install anything with winetricks, or did this occur on a clean wine
install?

I'm still having problems with dev version 1.1.18, although now I'm receiving
an pop-up error saying "Com error" (and subsequent crash) instead of the
previous crash with no error.

I don't see a way to add related bugs to this, but this defect might be related
to bug number 17338, which is the original problem I was having when trying to
use Quicken 2007 with Wine originally.  Now I'm seeing this com error, but I
suspect the two are related.

Hmm, I just did a system update today (I don't think wine was updated, but
numerous other packages were) and now it's back to the behavior in bug 17338...

I am seeing the "com error" with Quicken 2009 Deluxe and Wine 1.1.21 on Ubuntu
9.04. It crashes right after the quicken window starts to draw and the "Get
started with Quicken" window starts to draw.

I have upgraded to 9.04 and am no longer receiving the com error message.  I
believe I corrected that problem by copying all the quicken files from my USB
stick directly into the quicken program.

However, now when I attempt to open the QDF file the program crashes, (shuts
down).

I assume this will be a new bug and will enter it as such.

Has anyone come up with a fix to my noted new problem?

Mike,

Do you have the version of Wine installed from the standard Ubuntu
repositories, or are the Wine beta/development repository?

If you aren't already, try installing the latest development version from the
beta repo, instructions for which are available here:

On this update, 9.04 I installed if from the Ubuntu Package Manager.  On
previous versions of Ubuntu I both installed it from Wine repo and on 8.10 I
installed the beta release.  For information I had to do a clean install of
9.04 because of many problems and this made no difference in how Quicken Acted.
 I am using Wine 1.01 as it is a stable release.

I did as suggested, removed Wine and reinstalled using the latest beta version
as suggested.  The problem has gotten worse.

Quicken loaded and shows on the "C" Drive.  When I attempt to run quicken, it
appears as if it is trying to load eg. (the wheel rotates where the cursor was)
but nothing happens.

I have tried to load from the "shortcut left on the Desktop" and by running the
program from the Applications/wine programs menu.  Nothing happens either way.

I did not use winetricks as I was warned a long time ago about using this or
any other addon that might appear for Wine.

Gee this is frustrating.
