--- Comment #5 from joaopa jeremielapuree@yahoo.fr 2010-06-09 15:20:54 --- For me the demo works fine without gecko installed and crashes when gecko is installed.
Can you try the retail game without gecko?
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=19607
--- Comment #6 from Johan Palmqvist johan.palmqvist@home.se 2010-06-10 02:22:03 --- That's weird. I just tested both the demo and the retail version on 1.2-rc2 without gecko installed but both crashes the same way.
Note that I currently don't have access to the machine in the original post. This is on current Debian sid on an Athlon X2 with NVIDIA 9600GT (proprietary driver 195.36.24).

--- Comment #7 from joaopa jeremielapuree@yahoo.fr 2010-06-10 06:48:42 --- Sorry my first attempt was corrupted by an already installed directx version.
So can you try the following (at least with the demo version): remove your .wine folder wine notepad.exe if you have a windows license, put a native dplayx dll in your .wine/drive_c/windows/system32 folder regsvr32 dplayx.dll wine fifawin.exe
That should work.

I did exactly what you suggested with native dplayx.dll's from both Windows 98SE and XP in a clean 1.2-rc2 prefix but it still crashes. "winetricks directplay" doesn't help either. Our systems must be different somewhere else? I will test this on other systems too if i get the opportunity.

--- Comment #10 from joaopa jeremielapuree@yahoo.fr 2010-06-10 15:20:52 --- Arrf...
instead wine fifawin.exe you should read WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dplayx=n" wine fifawin.exe.
If it still does not work, please attack a console output without specified debug channels.
To do this, check that you have wine debug symbols installed.

Could be directplay related.
I get a crash without any overrides and these are printed at console.
fixme:dplay:IDirectPlayImpl_GetCaps (0x17e228)->(0x32f91c): stub fixme:dplay:DPWSCB_ShutdownEx (0x1813d8) stub err:dplay:DP_InitializeDPSP DP SP Initialization failed: DPERR_UNAVAILABLE err:dplay:DirectPlayCreate Failed to Initialize SP: DPERR_UNAVAILABLE err:dplay:IDirectPlay4Impl_InitializeConnection Unable to load service provider {44eaa760-cb68-11cf-9c4e-00a0c905425e}
with winetricks -q directplay I get a hang, some thread blocked.
One time I just pressed few times enter and I think it chose demo instead of play and I saw a football field and players drawn a short momeent.
Tried with wine 2.0-git and staging 2.0

Without xephyr, game hangs. Surely, the problem occurs because of 00d0:fixme:x11drv:X11DRV_desktop_SetCurrentMode Cannot change screen BPP from 32 to 8
