Bug ID: 40505 Summary: PDF Eraser Show False File Name Product: Wine Version: 1.9.8 Hardware: x86-64 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: yousifjkadom@yahoo.com Distribution: ---
PDF Eraser show "false" file name for pdf file.
In my case there is only one pdf file in desktop which is "TEST" (screen shot no.1).
But PDF Eraser show me 2 files: "TEST.pdf" & TEST.pdf(1)" (screen shot no.2).
When I select "TEST.pdf" it opened correctly.
But when I select "TEST.pdf(1)" I recieve error message as shown in screen shot no.3
This occuring even if I installing winetricks (mfc42) before installing PDF Eraser.

--- Comment #4 from Bruno Jesus 00cpxxx@gmail.com --- Please open a console and execute the command:
ls -l /home/mint/Desktop
And paste the results here just to ensure Mint is not tricking you by hiding a file with inaccessible permissions.

--- Comment #5 from Rosanne DiMesio dimesio@earthlink.net --- Confirming. For every PDF on my system, in any directory, the file open dialog lists both the real PDF and a false one with (1) appended to the name.
I'm also setting the severity to minor; this does not prevent the app from opening the real files, and it's easy to see which ones are the false ones.

--- Comment #7 from yousifjkadom@yahoo.com --- To Rossane:
WineHQ mean by HQ high quality, isn't it? Yes, this bug will not prevent user from manipiulating PDF file BUT IT WILL BE VERY BAD IF YOU DEAL WITH HUGE NUMBER OF PDF FILES LIKE 279 FILE STORED IN SAME FOLDER FOR PURPOSE OF ORGONIZATION BEING IN SAME FILD LIKE ENGINERING FOR EXAMPLE.

When I use dotnet20 I don't see the issue, with wine-mono the file selection dialog looks different and has the problem.

No, Head quarters, i.e., 'central location'.
There's no need TO YELL, especially when someone is helping you (by confirming the bug). Demanding that bugs be fixed doesn't encourage anyone to work on your issue.

--- Comment #11 from yousifjkadom@yahoo.com --- In reply to Austin English:
Hi. Dear Austin you misunderstand me. It seem that my previous statements creating a false picture for what I mean.
1st of all: I did & will never yell. I'm not angry from put bug on low level priority but I just like to give your attention by using LARG CHARACTERS in my previous reply.
I'm -like any user wishing to shift completely from windows to Linux- sharing the feeling to help other since Linux is non-commercial system & intruduced to help peoples for free. I like to see Linux distributed more & more among peoples. In my country (Iraq) very few peoples know about Linux & I like to corrage them to use it. The main problem for many of them is that they do not find Linux applications equevalent to many windows applications that they using. One of most sever field is PDF editors. Currently only Qoppa PDF Studio is nearly = to Adobe acrobat. For that reason I constrating on PDF tools because many of my friends & colleges need them.
2nd: regarding PDF Eraser, I insisting on make it with excellent support by wine because many of my friends use it to delete PDF contents. Myself does not depend on it for this. Insteade I use PDF XChange Editor which has "Reduction" option. So, I working like you for helping other peoples rather than to help myself.
3rd: I'm not enginer as you my concluded from my previous reply when I gave example of enginers using many books in PDF formate. Insteade I'm Academic lucturer in Medical Collage, being physician, & most of my medical books are in CHM formate. But many of my friends are enginers & working as Academic teachers in Engenering Collages & for that I gave such example because I see them using huge no. of e-books, most of them in PDF formate.
Please forgive me for any misunderstanding.
Again, I'm like you working for other peoples rather than for myself. I do not use PDF Eraser to delete contents in PDF books. I use PDF-XChange Editor but most my friends using PDF Eraser for that because it seem to them that PDF Eraser is easier than PDF-XChange Editor for deletion.

--- Comment #19 from Gijs Vermeulen gijsvrm@gmail.com --- This is fixed with wine-6.10 and wine-mono 6.2.0. I tested a PDF Eraser version from around the time this bug was filed. 'winetricks -q mfc42' is needed.
