Summary: Adobe Digital Editions doesn't install Product: Wine Version: 1.1.6 Platform: Other URL: http://www.adobe.com/products/digitaleditions/ OS/Version: other Status: NEW Keywords: download, Installer Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: dank@kegel.com
Digital Editions has to be installed by clicking 'OK' twice in a flash dialog (!). I tried installing it by doing sh winetricks gecko flash wine iexplore http://www.adobe.com/products/digitaleditions/ It acts like it's making progress, but it never accesses the network... ? Don't know if it has to or not.
I haven't tried installing it in windows firefox on wine yet, either.
Oddly, people say this works; http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=13053 marks it platinum, but says something strange about how to install it which I don't understand.

--- Comment #1 from Krzysztof Kotlenga piernik@gmail.com 2008-10-23 05:14:19 --- Indeed winetricks method doesn't work. However, I've got a different result: download goes fine but ends with "A download error occurred. Try to download again?" and then I can't find that file anywhere.
Where people say it works, it means they've installed it on Windows and copied digitaleditions1x5.exe from... just take a look where the shortcut points. It's that easy. Directory doesn't play a role.

--- Comment #2 from Dan Kegel dank@kegel.com 2008-10-23 06:33:22 --- That's the same error I got with winetricks. Good to see we're on the same page.
Thanks for the filename. With it, I found where to grab the .exe that the installer is supposed to grab:

Haven't had time to test with it yet, though. And this bug is about the install process, anyway.

--- Comment #3 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2010-06-27 19:12:31 --- Still present. For me in 1.2-rc5, the page won't load in wine's iexplore. In windows firefox + wine + flash, the page hangs.

--- Comment #4 from butraxz@gmail.com 2012-05-18 05:59:43 CDT --- This bug has not been updated for two years and OP by four. Is this still an issue i current (1.5.4) or newer wine ? You may also close this as abandoned if you feel that that this is issue is no longer relevant to you.

Teras, this bug is about running
$ sh winetricks gecko flash $ wine iexplore http://www.adobe.com/products/digitaleditions/
and trying to get installation of v1.5 from there. Since the page was redesigned (probably several times) over time, the bug (IMHO) should stay as ABANDONED, not FIXED.
PS: it's offtopic, but I found the file the installer was failing to launch: http://www.2shared.com/file/4253402/a13d5351/digitaleditions1x5.html
9,55 MB (10.022.853 bytes) 1a7299adee380e179f8fb912567332be3ba3e832 *digitaleditions1x5.exe

--- Comment #10 from Anastasius Focht focht@gmx.net --- Hello folks,
as Saulius already told in comment #8 it was Adobe Digital Editions 1.5 at the date (2008) of the bug report. The archive.org snapshot from Oct 2008 tells this as well:

Sadly there is no snapshot of ADE 1.5:

@Teras comment #5
ADE 4.0 was released several years later in 2015 and based on different technologies/frameworks.
Adobe changed the distribution / download concept later to not use that brain damage called Flash which was the problem the bug report was originally opened for. Resolution 'ABANDONED' would have been correct. Props to Saulius.
