Backtrace

I had lag problems with this game with Ubuntu 12.04 and wine 1.4, but after
upgrading to Ubuntu 14.04 and wine 1.7 the game won't start at all.

Hello folks,

upgrading prefixes from very old Wine versions to recent Wine sometimes doesn't
work.

Please install the game in a clean (new!) 32-bit WINEPREFIX with Wine 1.7

Additionally it seems you're not using plain Wine but some Ubuntu version with
unofficial patches applied.
That makes bug reports potentially invalid too.
