http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12370
Summary: AGEod's American Civil War cannot run. Product: Wine Version: 0.9.58. Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: blocker Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: fernando.lagrange@club-internet.fr
Created an attachment (id=11865) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=11865) Error with following command: "nohup wine AACW.exe > wine.txt &"
When the game starts, there is an exception in ntdll that prevents it from running.
wine was launched with and without "WINDEBUG=relay" (see attached files).
Game developers states that this seems to be linked to DirectX. This game is based on same engine than Napoleon's Campaigns: http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=6294
Same behaviour has been seen with wine-0.9.56.

--- Comment #11 from Sitting Bull fernando.lagrange@club-internet.fr 2008-10-18 12:25:09 --- Impossible to play game with wine 1.1.6 "out of the box".
Here is what has been done (under an Ubuntu Hardy Heron 8.04): - complete remove of wine package with "sudo apt-get remove --purge wine winbind", - remove of directory .wine in $HOME of user, - installed wine 1.1.6 (as stated on http://www.winehq.org/site/download-deb ) - installed gamed (no problem), - installed patch 1.09e (no problem).
Then try to launch game with following commands: nohup wine AACW.ece > wine.txt or export WINEDEBUG=relay; nohup wine AACW.exe > wine+relay.txt &
Renamed produced files can be found attached to this bug.

--- Comment #15 from Sitting Bull fernando.lagrange@club-internet.fr 2009-10-18 04:43:45 --- Yes same problem still occurs. :-(
Here is what has been done: - check wine version with dpkg: $ dpkg -s wine | grep Version Version: 1.1.31~winehq0~ubuntu~9.04-0ubuntu1
- move ~/.wine directory to safe place
- install game (no problem) -> at this point game does not start
- install latest game patch (no problem) -> at this point game does not start
Please note that playing latest game patch on a .wine directory with directX previously installed does work.

--- Comment #16 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2010-04-30 16:43:40 --- Does the demo have the same problem? http://www.a-acw.com/english/main.html

--- Comment #17 from Sitting Bull fernando.lagrange@club-internet.fr 2010-05-01 09:47:09 --- Yes, same problem occurs with demo (without and with 1.15 patch).
Same behaviour: - install demo is ok - launching it is not
- install patch is ok - launching it is not
Since my system changed (updated OS to 9.10 and wine version to 1.1.43-0ubuntu1~karmicppa1), you'll find shortly a log file.

Command launched after game patch v1.15 installation.
Raw text file was too big (~2.9 Mo), so it was "tar.gzed".

--- Comment #19 from GyB gyebro69@gmail.com 2012-02-25 13:28:04 CST --- Is this still a problem with Wine-1.4-rc5 or newer?
I tried the demo, available here: http://ageoddl.telechargement.fr/latest/AACW_Demo.zip
Indeed, the game crashes early, during the loading stage. Contrary to what the bug reporter stated in comment #4, this crash has nothing to do with ddraw, but with directmusic: after 'winetricks directmusic' the demo can get to the main menu. Actually, native dmime.dll is sufficient to work around the crash. Winegstreamer also had to be disabled on my system.

No response since. Can you point into working legal download? The links mentioned here seem to be dead.
