--- Comment #1 from Luke Bratch l_bratch@yahoo.co.uk 2007-10-13 08:51:24 --- It is possible to get around this using Mono with winetricks.
winetricks mono12
To install, and the installer will then accept that .NET 2.0 is installed and carry on.

--- Comment #2 from Louis Lenders xerox_xerox2000@yahoo.co.uk 2008-03-09 11:55:04 --- Could you retry this with current wine? .net installers should finish fine now i guess
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10019
--- Comment #3 from Luke Bratch l_bratch@yahoo.co.uk 2008-03-09 12:14:34 --- This /kind of/ works now. With winver as win2k, the .NET installer finishes fine, but the game's setup won't start. With winver as winxp, the .NET crashes (with a standard MS send/don't send error report dialogue) but apparently has done enough to convince the real installer that .NET is installed.

--- Comment #4 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2008-06-16 15:48:04 --- Is this still an issue in current (1.0-rc5 or newer) wine?
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10019
--- Comment #5 from Luke Bratch l_bratch@yahoo.co.uk 2008-06-16 18:47:40 --- Exactly the same as my last response really. To elaborate:
With default Wine (winxp) the installer starts, and starts the .NET 2.0 framework installation, which crashes, and the installer dies. Starting the installer again works fine (the crashed .NET 2.0 installer must have done enough).
To be honest this might as well become a duplicate of bug 10601, since when that works, this will work.

--- Comment #6 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2009-01-18 03:45:58 --- Removing deprecated CVS/GIT version tag. Please retest in current git. If the bug is still present in today's wine, but was not present in some earlier version of wine, please update version field to earliest known version of wine that had the bug. Thanks!

--- Comment #9 from Evil wine@eternaldusk.com 2009-03-14 00:46:45 --- I can confirm the Net2.0 installation problems with this demo. It fails for me, exactly as it does for Luke when the windows version is set to XP.
And, like Luke, it seems to get far enough that when you run the installer a second time it will start at the step beyond .Net installation.
I tested this using the brand-new Wine 1.1.17.

Does installing dotnet20 with winetricks first help?
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10019
--- Comment #11 from Luke Bratch l_bratch@yahoo.co.uk 2009-09-17 17:32:44 --- Yup, installing dotnet20 with winetricks makes the installer work first time with a clean WINEPREFIX.

Yup, installing dotnet20 with winetricks makes the installer work first time with a clean WINEPREFIX.
What do you mean saying first time? Subsequent installer launch fails or what? Does application install after installing dotnet20 with winetricks?

--- Comment #13 from Luke Bratch l_bratch@yahoo.co.uk 2009-12-29 15:21:29 --- I mean that without installing dotnet20 with winetricks it works after running the game's installer twice (because the .NET 2.0 installer that the game's installer launches does enough to satisfy itself that .NET 2.0 is installed).
By installing dotnet20 first, the installer works the first time (i.e. you don't need to run it twice) as well as working all subsequent times.

I see.

So it's definitely a duplicate of bug 10601, cause winetricks forces version to win2k as a workaround before installing dotnet20.
