I would like to report that Spotify installs fine now but only gives a black
screen when launched. Console output is attached.

I have the same or similar problem than you with wine 1.7.54, but for some
reason wine-staging 1.7.53 shows a login menu that I am unable to see with pure
wine.

I also get deadlock messages.

Still the same.

Doesn't work with pure wine 1.9.7, but you can see login details with
wine-staging 1.9.7.

FWIW, I can't reproduce this, and I have never used wine-staging.

Someone who can reproduce it should attach updated console output.

I cant see anything suspicious at the console. Lots of general fixmes that you
can see with other programs too.

Spotify throws an error that there has been some internal issues (the message
is translated into my native language via spotify).

I think it would be more useful to figure out what wine-staging patch fixes it
for me.

I just cant figure out what's the component.

I doubt you can test this bug anymore. Now when you download spotify it crashes
in libcef. Which is bug 40881.

I still have the old installer, and it still works, but I've never been able to
reproduce this bug.

Old versions are available for download at
http://www.filehorse.com/download-spotify/old-versions/page-2/. The version
I've been using is 1.0.26.132.

I can confirm this bug. Also happens with me in vanilla wine.

In wine-staging a nice login-window comes up. Dont have an account so couldnt
test further.

I did another installation using the latest Windows-installer from the URL
indicated in this bug report.

The installer now moans that I shouldn't install Spotify with Administrator
privileges.

I am assuming that the bug is not reproducible anymore.

I managed to get past that issue by manually patching the FULL installer. After
installation completed, Spotify displayed a mangled login page that I managed
to fix by forcing a re-render by slightly resizing the window.

However after login, Spotify still displayed a few crash messages and closed
after a few seconds.

Here's how to do the patching:

Download the ~57 MB full installer (not the < 1 MB web installer) from the
following link: https://download.scdn.co/SpotifyFullSetup.exe

Then using a hex editor go down to address 0x00002AA4 and replace the following
byte sequence:

Address:   Original Byte:    Replace With:
00002AA4   E8                B0
00002AA5   15                01
00002AA6   0E                90
00002AA7   00                90
00002AA8   00                90

Then save and run. That should let you complete the installation successfully,
however there is another issue that keeps it from running. I've attached the
log.

Could you explain what exactly doesn`t work?

Probably. I see a black screen with lots of crashes one after the other, until
the application finally closes.

Hi mma, I did a fresh new install in a new WINEPREFIX and apart from a
non-fatal crash Spotify seems to run flawlessly. So I suggest to start all over
again, I used the (latest) version here:

I patched the installer to let me install regardless of whether or not I'm
Admin (see Comment #12), but I might be using an older version of the installer
or might've broke something. I should get the latest one, start from scratch
and give it another try.

This is still present in current version of Spotify.

This is for the current version of Spotify and probably related to
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=44985

However disabling libGlesv2 doensn`t work. I always start with 
wine Spotify --no-sandbox --single-process, and the app works perfectly.

For now let`s keep this open as seperate bug, seems not like an exact dupe of
bug 44985

Note: For older versions of Spotify this black screen maybe had an other cause,
but how useful would it be to test ancient versions as the app updates itsself
instantly.

Just for the info, still present in current wine-4.20

(Workarounds from previous comment still work, but somehow Spotify seems to
have high CPU-load now. Anyway, not really related to what this bugreport is
about)
