Bug #: 31251 Summary: A new beginning and Deponia does not save Product: Wine Version: 1.5.8 Platform: x86 OS/Version: Mac OS X Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: paulthetall@gmail.com Classification: Unclassified
Created attachment 41047 --> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=41047 Save Issue
In "a new beginning" and in "Deponia", which are both from the same company Daedalic Entertainment, you can save in the game, but the result is not visible and if you restart the game it seemed not to be saved at all (no option to load). (see screenshot). However you can click continue which will continue from where you left. Wierd bug. I haven't really an test debug output which points to something...unless you guys can give me a parameter which i can use in this case. More then one people are having the same issue, in fact, the screenshot is from a friend of mine who runs into the same issue.

You can click save and it saves, but when you click load after saving, its not visable, see screenshot attached. You can check it yourself if you want, demo link is there.

--- Comment #4 from GyB gyebro69@gmail.com 2012-08-07 14:39:12 CDT --- I can't reproduce the problem with Deponia demo (German version), still downloading the other demo to try. http://www.chip.de/downloads/Deponia-Demo_54252295.html#sp=deponia;N=0;pos=1
Preview images for saved games are visible and I am able to load a saved game. Tested with Wine 1.5.8 and 1.5.10
@Paul: have you actually clicked on the <Save> button on the right after you selected a save slot?

--- Comment #5 from Paul The Tall paulthetall@gmail.com 2012-08-07 14:41:52 CDT --- Yes, but after quiting the game and then restarting it, load a game is greyed out, no option for it. So it did not saved somehow.

The funny thing about the "in the beginning" is that when i click continue, it starts where I left.

--- Comment #7 from GyB gyebro69@gmail.com 2012-08-07 14:55:41 CDT --- No problem here with the other demo either (A New beginning). Saved games are located in c:/users/user_name/Local Settings/Application Data/Daedalic Entertainment/A New Beginning Demo/Savegames. The directory contains 3 files: bookmark00.dat, bookmark01.dat, savegame00.dat
Anything suspicious in the terminal?

--- Comment #10 from Enrico ml@the-candyman.eu 2012-09-04 14:47:16 CDT --- I can also confirm this for Deponia (german retail version).
wine version 1.4.1
The log of Deponia is acutally giving a hint, maybe this can help:
.wine/drive_c/users/user_name/Lokale Einstellungen/Anwendungsdaten/Daedalic Entertainment/Deponia/messages.log
20:12:42: Error: can't open file '\tmp\vtp_savepic9.png' (error 3: pfad nicht gefunden.) 20:12:42: Warning: Could not create png-file \tmp\vtp_savepic9.png 20:12:42: Warning: SaveGame: Saving snapshot failed
The bookmarks seem to also work for me, I guess this is just because they are not trying to create a thumbnail.

I checked the folder where the saved game should be and it appears to be there but the savegame00.dat is not there. Check the screenshot below:

--- Comment #13 from Enrico ml@the-candyman.eu 2012-09-07 14:20:11 CDT --- I actually found a solution to get the game to save. All I did was creating a "tmp" folder in the root folder of the defined harddisk drive.
I have a windows drive "D" defined in wine at path /mnt/data/wine, so when creating an empty "tmp" folder "/mnt/data/wine/tmp" the game seems to use it and it is now running flawless (Deponia, dont know for A new beginning).

--- Comment #15 from Xavier Vachon xvachon@gmail.com 2013-04-25 01:12:59 CDT --- Tested this under linux with the GOG.com version of the game and it does save. Since a MAC version of the game is available, would this need to be fixed or could it be closed as 'won't fix'?

--- Comment #16 from Paul The Tall paulthetall@gmail.com 2013-04-25 01:30:26 CDT --- Yes, you can close it because of the native Mac version.

Yes, it can be closed because of the native Mac version which already came out.
If there is no longer interest in testing in OSX the correct resolution is to resolve as abandoned.

Other people have OSX as well...regardless, I can't reproduce this in 1.4 using the demo, and no one else could either, so I think WORKSFORME is the appropriate resolution.
