Bug #: 30260 Summary: Office 2010 SP1 installer reports failure Product: Wine Version: 1.5.0 Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: NEW Severity: minor Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: dimesio@earthlink.net Classification: Unclassified
Created attachment 39530 --> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=39530 Log of SP1 installer
File: officesuite2010sp1-kb2460049-x86-fullfile-en-us.exe md5sum: cc693ffabac8a5c8053f1d8f701e8119
The installer starts, shows the license, checks update status, extracts files, says it is installing though the progress bar never advances, then ends with a message that installation of this product failed.
Despite the message, at least part of SP1 is installed: MLA seventh edition and APA sixth edition are added to list of bibliographic reference styles, and the version numbers of Word, Excel, and Powerpoint are updated in File=>Help=>Additional Version and Copyright Information.

I'm having issues installing Office 2010 SP1 on Ubuntu 12.04 64bits. I'm using wine-1.5.10 and tried in a clean wineprefix.

Was this 32 bit office on a 64 bit system in both cases?

--- Comment #3 from Rosanne DiMesio dimesio@earthlink.net 2012-08-05 22:30:18 CDT --- It's 32 bit Office on a 64 bit system, but in a pure 32 bit wineprefix.

Which distro you are using?
If your distro has winbind in the repository. Please, install it. Reboot the system and check that winbindd daemon is running. Try installing Office after that. I am sure that it will get install. I was having the same problem.
Feel free to ask if this does not help.

I suggest in the future that you actually read bug reports before leaving comments in them. This bug is about the service pack installers reporting failure, not about installing Office 2010 itself. Winbind has nothing to do with this issue. But for the record, not only do I already have it installed, I'm the one who wrote the AppDB howto for Office 2010, which clearly states it is needed.

--- Comment #12 from Andreas Christ andreas.christ@runbox.com --- I assume that this bug concerns both the installation of the service packs as updates to an installed Office 2010 and a new install from a medium that already contains the service packs.
I tried the latter (Office 2010 Home & Student with SP1, Brazilian version) about a year ago on Debian 7 (amd64). Unfortunately, I do not remember which version of wine I tried. It was either 1.4 from the Debian repositories or a home made built of 1.6. The installer did not complete, so I assumed I was concerned by the bug reported here.
Today, I tried again on a recently installed system (now Debian 8, amd64) with wine 1.6.2 from the regular repositories. To my surprise, the installer completed, and Office is running.
However, I am not sure SP1 installed. The help screen shows the following version number: 14.0.6023.1000. There is no mention of any service pack.
With the exception of wine-staging, the system contains only packages from the official Debian repositories, and as mentioned above I was able to install Office with wine 1.6.2. (I have not yet been able to test any more recent builds of wine, such as wine-staging, because of a problem that is not related to the bug reported here.)
Maybe someone could try to reproduce this. If I can provide any additional information, please let me know.

I assume that this bug concerns both the installation of the service packs as updates to an installed Office 2010 and a new install from a medium that already contains the service packs.
I filed this bug for the installation of service packs as updates to an installed Office 2010. I just retested in 1.9.0, and no longer get the error message at the end, so I'm marking this fixed.
If you still have problems installing your version of Office 2010 in 1.9.0, file a new bug for that.
