When I open a PNG file in mspaint (from Windows XP Pro + SP3), and then tries
to open a PNG file, it gets displayed in grayscale without colors, even though
the PNG file does have colors.

Paint seems to render PNG files in greyscale, seems to be an error in gdiplus.

Yes, that did work.
Now my PNG and JPG images does display fine in mspaint.

However, now I have to rely on;
1. External software.
2. Proprietary software.

This needs to be fixed in the Wine project. In the Wine's open source
implementation of GDI+.

Also, although this problem can be fixed by fetching a third-party file.

The problem is that it does not work out-of-the-box.

Okay, first attachment is from Wine with normal wine GDI+.
Second attachment is from Wine with the GDI+ from Microsoft.

Works fine using wine-1.1.28-413-g5db05df. PNG file displayed properly with
colors. Looks like some recent Vincent's patches made a thing.
