I tested this a time ago. AFAICT you really need Staging to get this installed. This thread has more info on how to get it run.
For the installer, I think the bugs that affect it already are covered by bugreports in bugzilla

Depending on which .NET Frameworks you've installed prior you will run into different bugs (dotnet35 vs. dotnet40 vs. dotnet45 ...).
If you install .NET Framework 4.7 via 'winetricks -q dotnet472' you avoid all of them.
The app itself hits bug 44055 ("Multiple applications fail to run in Win7+ mode, requiring DWM composition API support to be enabled (Aero Glass, transparent windows)(Affinity Designer 1.6, Electron-based apps using isAeroGlassEnabled API)") though.
$ sha1sum affinity-designer-1.8.2.exe 00cdf703a24cb8b98e7d2c8afc8cf66bccbb57ff affinity-designer-1.8.2.exe

correction, the installer suffers from bug 45868 as well - even with .NET Framework 4.7 installed. I had a patch still applied when testing.
I've udated bug 45868 ("Multiple .NET 4.x applications crash due to shell32.SHGetStockIconInfo lacking support for SHGSI_ICON flag (Windower 5 beta/FF XI tool, Affinity Designer 1.x)") to reference this app.
