Summary: Civilization 4 fails to install Product: Wine Version: 0.9.58. Platform: Other OS/Version: other Status: NEW Keywords: Installer, regression Severity: enhancement Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: scott@open-vote.org
Created an attachment (id=11887) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=11887) Error message from installer
After selecting English, accepting the license agreement, and proceeding to install, Civ 4's installer will get to the Art0.FPK file. Then, an error message pops up (attached) and the installer crashes.
This happens on both 0.9.58 and 0.9.59. According to AppDB, the game worked sometime before then.

--- Comment #2 from Scott Ritchie scott@open-vote.org 2008-04-10 05:38:31 --- Hmm, testing Wine versions back to and including 0.9.54 still produce the same error, but according to the AppDB 0.9.54 was the one that worked with installation. The problem is elsewhere.

--- Comment #3 from Scott Ritchie scott@open-vote.org 2008-04-10 05:48:41 --- Testing with a clean .wine, 0.9.59 cannot install DirectX, which the installer attempts to install before installing the game. The error is an uninformative "installation failed"

--- Comment #4 from Tom Stellard tstellar@gmail.com 2008-04-11 22:02:47 --- I don't think installing DirectX with civ4 has ever worked on wine. However, you don't need to install DirectX to install the game, you can just click cancel when it asks you to install DirectX and continue on with the rest of the installation. I was able to successfully install Civ4 after canceling the DirectX installation with wine version 0.9.58.

--- Comment #6 from Scott Ritchie scott@open-vote.org 2008-04-13 16:07:13 --- Actually I'm beginning to think that the particular CD I have is broken or different from the other ones, since I couldn't install with the versions that are reported working on AppDB even after the DirectX workaround - each time it gives the same error.

When I tried to do the same thing, I was unable to proceed. Hitting "Cancel" either before it tries to install DirectX, at the license agreement, or after all cause the install to fail.

Can you tell me the error message you are getting when you try and run the installation.

--- Comment #9 from Luke Bratch l_bratch@yahoo.co.uk 2008-04-26 04:39:25 --- sgtrock, please post in Bugzilla, do not reply to wine-bugs. Email read:
"I gave up and followed the directions from the guy who got it working with 0.9.58. He copied over some d3d*.dlls and msxml3*.dlls. That solved the problem for him. It got the game installed for me.
As to the error that I saw? Each time I hit 'Cancel', the setup program decided that the game could not be installed and exited."

Closing bugs fixed in 1.1.12.
Hey, could some one help me install this? Whenever I attempt to install it says I need direct x. If I try to cancel it as suggested, it just completely cancels start up. Likewise, if I try to install direct x through the wizard, it also fails and says I need to check my directx.log file.
Any ideas of what to do?
I tried to install Civilization through Wine 1.1.12 and Wine 1.0.1. Both times I had the same DirectX problem...anyone have any ideas?
