Football Manager 2009 demo installer traces

With today's Git (wine-1.1.7-169-g4707548), when starting the Football Manager
2009 demo, the installer performs extraction, but when it shows what should be
the installation window, a blank window is displayed instead. Traces and
screenshots are attached.

I can confirm the bug. 
The exact same thing happens to me, both with wine 1.0.7 and 1.0.0.

I can confirm the bug.
I am successful to install with a workaround:
- open the downloaded "Setup FM2009 Demo.exe" in a compression utility;
- extract the contents to a folder on your computer;
- go to the folder where you extracted the demo contents;
- go into the folder named "Windows";
- delete the folder named "jre";
- run "Setup FM2009 Demo.exe" from the "Windows" folder.
Unfortunately a blank window is displayed when run the game.

Deleting the JRE folder yields a screen saying "could not find a valid Java
Virtual Machine to load" when tryig to run the setup. Did you install a JRE
separately on wine?

I have installed the last jre.
In order to work, fm2009 has need also of vcrun2005sp1, vcrun2005 and directx9.
I have installed them through winetricks.

Thanks for the tips.
I got it working. However, I always get a black strip in the 3d engine (and new
2D).

Anyone has the same problem? 
I attach an image of the issue.

Regarding the bug in question, the issue is bypassed by:

1) Disabling compiz (no effects)
2) Installing a JVM in wine
3) Proceed as described in comment 5.

I tried to do as you said, so the blank screen do not compare anymore. But when
I click ok after selecting language, after a short loading bar progress, an
error message says "The installer cannot run on your cofiguration.It will now
quit." Any solutions?

i have successfully installed the program using the HowTo but now when i try to
run the game i get a window pop up saying:

Runtime Error!

Program: C:\Program...

An application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly.
Please contact the application's support team for more infomation.

does anybody know how to fix this problem, i have already tried uninstalling
and reinstalling several times and i always get the same message
Also i am a complete noob when it comes to linux so if you could word any
answers in complete beginners step-by-step instructions that would be very much
appreciated.

The full version also has the same problem:

Blank screen when running on Vista, 2003, XP and 2000. It does show the correct
screen on NT4.0, but "the game cannot run on this system and installation will
now quit".

tested with Wine 1.1.10 - the installer still hangs when it's doing something
with Java.

I had the gray window with FM2008 installer, but I got it working by setting
HKCU->Software->Wine->Direct3D->DirectDrawRenderer to "gdi"

How do you delete the "jre folder", I can't see it in Winetricks.  I'm not an
expert at Wine and Linux.  I can help you if you give me simple instructions.

I run winetricks, I could only install directx9 and vcrun2005.  There were no
entries for jre and vcrun2005sp1.

Still getting the blank screen bug.

Wine 1.3.5 problem

Having read the AppDB for this game, it says: "You must have directx9, dotnet20
and msxml3 installed to run FM2009, these can all be installed with
winetricks."

The dotnet20 refused to install (see attachment).  Still getting the blank
screens when trying to install Football Manager 2009.

Greetings to all.
I'm new to wine and I have to report as well that I have faced the same problem
with another application that uses InstallAnywhere installer. The application
os the MagicDraw9.5 uml editor. The application is an old 2005 release.

I get the same blank screen when the installer finishes the extraction. I have
installed the directx9 and vcrun2005. Although I'm not see in the list the
vcrun2005sp1 and jre libraries.

No update for over 900 days. Is still an issue with 1.5.28 or higher ?

Link leads to a magazine, that is no longer published. Shouldnt this be closed

Yes, the original demo was published by News of the World...which was closed
some time ago (a quick google will get you the reason).

Anyway, FM2009 is very old now. There have been 4 new versions since then. You
can however grab the demo from here

you want to verify if the bug have been resolved in the new version of wine.

The original problem is fixed, the installer works fine. There is a crash in
the end when it's running some sort of cleanup but that's another problem.
