Summary: Civilization 4 blocks the screen Product: Wine Version: 1.1.41 Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: directx-d3d AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: luis.busquets@ilidium.com
When running this game under Windows, you can press ALT+TAB and then you change to the desktop to run other things and you can afterwards go back. When you try on Linux when you press those keys the menu for the appsthat you have open appears in the middle of the screen and you can go with ALT+TAB to another. However when you realease ALT+TAB nothing happens and you remain in the Civ4 game.

--- Comment #1 from Dmitry Timoshkov dmitry@codeweavers.com 2010-03-23 01:23:28 --- Obviously Alt+Tab is handled by your WM. Does Alt+Tab work at all in your WM when running full-screen apps?

--- Comment #3 from Luis Busquets luis.busquets@ilidium.com 2010-03-31 06:10:40 --- I have tried ALT+TAB with other full screen apps (VLC) and it works in my system. In Civilization IV when I press ALT, it appears in the middle of the screen the selection, as with VLC and with TAB I can change to the application icon I want. However, on the contrary to VLC when I release ALT, so that I get the new app, when wine Civ is running, nothing happens and the screen continues to be the full screen Civ4

--- Comment #4 from Vitaliy Margolen vitaliy@kievinfo.com 2010-03-31 21:51:30 --- Have you changed any settings in winecfg? Specifically "Allow the window manager to control windows"?

--- Comment #5 from Luis Busquets luis.busquets@ilidium.com 2010-03-31 22:23:24 --- The option to allow the WM to control the windows is checked. I have tried to run it with it uncheceked and same behaviour and furthermore, now the icon to choose Civ4 does not appear. No problem since Civ4 continues to occupy the full screen.

--- Comment #6 from Xavier Vachon xvachon@gmail.com 2010-10-24 21:19:16 CDT --- I am not sure to understand how we can reproduce this. Do you mean that when you press alt+tab to switch to another app, CIV4 remains on your screen? You mention that pressing alt brings a menu up, my WM does not do that. What WM do you use?

--- Comment #7 from Luis Busquets luis.busquets@ilidium.com 2010-10-25 01:59:37 CDT --- When Civ 4 runs in windows, it runs at full screen as with WINE. If for some reason you want use another application but not closing Civ 4, you just press ALT+TAB and change to the window of desired application and Civ4 minimizes (as it runs at full screen only).
In I-cannot-remember-which-version-of-previous wine, you could also do this, you just changed application (ALT+TAB and civ4 minimised). However, From one version of wine on if you try to do this, yes, the selection of applications screen appears in the middle of the screen when pressing ALT+TAB. Furthermore maintaning ALT pressed, if you press TAB you can select any of the applications that you want to use between those that are active but when you release ALT, instead of appearing the application you selected and Civ4 minimising, Civ4 continues maximizes and runnig at full screen.

I use Fedora 12 and Fedora 13 with GNOME and the same applied to Fedora 10.
