Bug #: 34299 Summary: http://www.winehq.org/download/ubuntu incorrectly identifies the Ubuntu PPA as WineHQ's Product: WineHQ.org Version: unspecified Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: NEW Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: www-unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: dimesio@earthlink.net Classification: Unclassified
That page states:
"Ubuntu's default repository includes Wine, however if you want to stay up to date with the latest Wine package you can use WineHQ's by following these instructions."
That wording leads users to believe that the PPA is under the control of WineHQ when it is not. As a result, bugs don't get reported promptly to the package maintainer and users expect support on the forum for any problem they may have installing Wine packages. When told otherwise, many choose to argue, pointing to the wording on that page. I can't really blame them.

--- Comment #2 from Scott Ritchie scott@open-vote.org 2013-08-19 15:47:43 CDT --- To be fair, when I see bugs I forward them up when they're wine bugs and fix them when they're packaging bugs. The real problem is people aren't coming to me, so I can make that more clear.

--- Comment #3 from Rosanne DiMesio dimesio@earthlink.net 2013-08-19 16:33:10 CDT --- I know you do, Scott, and I know you want to be informed ASAP of any broken packages. The problem is that because of the wording on that page, a lot of users just plain don't believe me when I tell them to contact you. There is an argument on the forum nearly every week with someone who insists that the Ubuntu PPA is run by WineHQ, and points to that page as evidence. So yes, all I am asking is that you make it clear that problems with the packages or repository should be reported to you, not here.
