On the way to bug 9992, the app spits out several errors like
fixme:ole:OLEPictureImpl_Load Unknown magic 0400, 2475 read bytes: 6c 74 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 04 52 e3 0b 91 8f ce 11 9d e3 00 ...
Presumably some icon or other isn't loading properly.
Native dcom98 doesn't work with this app, fwiw.

Also native oleaut32.dll from XP does have that byte sequence in 1 place, so this probably suggests that it does know this format.
