Summary: Approach with two db's open does not repaint Product: Wine Version: 1.1.20 Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P3 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: ToddAndMargo@verizon.net
Created an attachment (id=20863) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=20863) two database repaint error
Hi All,
With Lotus Approach, when you have two databases open inside (one) Approach (not reproducible with only one) and you focus another running Linux program (like Firefox) on top of Approach, then you pull Approach back into focus (the foreground), the database page does not repaint. If you mouse click where the fields are suppose to be, you will get that field back.
Workaround: grab the lower right corner and re-size the windows as small as you can get it, then re-size it back.
What a pain in the neck!
Many thanks, -T

Hi Vitaliy,
I realize this is your call on the severity, but I have been using Approach for years in XP with several databases open. Usually I am viewing only one at a time, as shown in the attached picture, but sometimes with several showing at once.
This bug, along with minimized icons that won't open, etc. makes using Approach in Wine unbearably annoying and atrociously difficult to use.
Again, I realize this is not my call, but would you please consider upgrading the "severity" back to "normal".
Many thanks, -T

Minor - For minor loss of functionality, or other problem where an easy workaround is present
If anything this is more like Trivial - For a UI glitch that doesn't affect running of a program.

Hi Vitaliy,
Tearing ones hair out trying to use Approach would apply to at least minor. I am concerned that too low a severity will get this bug thrown on the dust bin. It is really, really driving me crazy. Would you consider at least "minor", as it seems to perfectly describe the problem? There is
1) loss of functionality (you can not see any of the fields),
2) a workaround is present (grabbing the bottom, right and sizing it small then sizing it large), and
3) the user is going out of his mind (and he whines a lot too)
Many thanks, -T

It is a problem with a clumsy work-around present, therefore the severity is at least minor. Classifying as "normal" could also be, since the work-around does not work very well here. I have to fiddle with the size a number of times before the core function of the program (database program showing database records) is restored.
It looks that this bug is the fourth one that you reported that involves the MDI windows of Approach (others are 18159, 18233 and 18234). These all may be related.

Hi Austin,
I am running 1.1.33. There is no symptom change. Is there any chance of getting this looked at in 1.1.34?

$ rpm -qa *nvidia* nvidia-x11-drv-256.35-1.el5.elrepo kmod-nvidia-256.35-1.el5.elrepo
These are availble from http://elrepo.org/linux/testing/el5/ and
http://elrepo.org/linux/testing/el5/i386/RPMS/elrepo-release-0.1-1.el5.elrep...
But, before doing this, you have to uninstall dkms and dkms-nvidia-x11. I suggest dropping to run level 3 to do this (init 3) and reboot afterward. Also read this first: http://elrepo.org/tiki/kmod-nvidia

Hi Dmitry,
The video driver I used to correct this bug is a "beta" or "testing" driver. Are you able to tell is this bug was caused by 1) the too aggressive use of new functions in a "Test" drivers or 2) the correction of a defect in the "general release" driver. If the answer is 1), then wine needs to back off of using "testing" functions and revert to "general release" functions. If 2), then this bug is truly invalid.

Did you test that the painting really has been fixed by a driver upgrade and not a change in Wine?
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18318
--- Comment #16 from Todd Chester ToddAndMargo@gmail.com 2010-07-13 11:24:08 --- It did not work under rc7 until I upgraded my video drivers.
And, other repaint problems are still in effect, such as 21855. And an Approach problem I have yet to report where typing in a find field disappears and reappears (the letter are there, they just do not show).
Are you able to tell if this problem was a defect in the video driver or Wine getting too happy with "test" portions of the new video driver?

I don't have this application and can only make assumptions after reading your comments. If the driver update fixes this problem then it looks like it was a driver bug.
