Could you try disabling sound?
Indeed, disabling sound gets rid of the crash. Game shows the loading screen and starts loading, but then, after a while, still crashes, this time with an error in libcrypto.so.
I've tried earlier versions of wine, and discowered that 1.3.29 works fine, while 1.3.30 doesn't work, having this sound-related crash! So something happened between 1.3.29 and 1.3.30 that introduced this crash. Note also that 1.3.29 has the libcrypto.so crash as well, but in contrast with situation with 1.5.4 this crash is not fatal, i.e. there appears a window telling that a crash happened, but if I click "Close" on this window, the game continues to load and works well. Though, it's for some reason noticibly slower then the older version of the game with wine series 1.5 (which worked, as I described in the report).

--- Comment #4 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com --- This is your friendly reminder that there has been no bug activity for over a year. Is this still an issue in current (1.7.51 or newer) wine?
